It is about the Servsafe food alcohol and allergen safety training program. The relationship and partnership between the US military and the National Restaurant Association goes back 57 years when the NRA established the Hennessy Trophy Awards Program in 1957.
The program honors the dedication pride and fellowship of military food service personnel over the years. We’ve expanded the program to include awards for all branches of service. In 2012, the National Restaurant Association Military Foundation was created which provides training and support to military hospitality programs and offer services for vets and their spouses.
We are going to include special discount pricing this year to all military food service personnel through the IMCA virtual trade show. So the FDA is a very important part of why the partnership has grown with the National Restaurant Association and the Air Force with the release of these two important FDA Food codes one in 2009. 2013 helped solidify the military’s use of the Servsafe food safety training program. Why Servsafe is created by the industry?
It’s also based on a job task analysis that a group of industry subject matter experts created the Servsafe program. Nine out of ten top chain restaurants use our program and over 5 million certifications have been issued till now. Servsafe is broken into manager and employee level training. We have food safety training programs and alcohol safety, training program and an allergen safety training program.
The Servsafe manager program is the most widely recognized and utilized program of the Servsafe suite of products. Training is available online or also in a classroom setting. Several exams are available for those that have English as a Second Language. The Servsafe manager examination does require a proctor.
Once a 75-percent score is received the individual, student will receive a five-year national certification. The Servsafe food handler course is also available in a classroom setting or online. The exam is unpardonable or the program includes basic food safety, personal hygiene cross-contamination and allergens time and temperature abuse and cleaning and sanitizing
The Servsafe Alcohol Program is our responsible alcohol service program, which is available in classroom or an online training. There are two exams that are offered. One is a forty-question unprompted examination and the other is a seventy-question proctored examination used for those that want to go on to become Servsafe alcohol instructors upon successful completion. The student passing the exam shall receive a three-year national certificate.
The Servsafe Alcohol Program is divided into four key sections on your responsibilities recognizing and preventing intoxication checking IDs and handling difficult situations. Last but not least, a newest program to the Servsafe suite of products is the Servsafe allergens program, which was created in partnership with fair which is the food allergy research and education association. It is good for front of the house staff as well as back of house staff participants are trained in three key areas defining food allergies recognized symptoms of those going into anaphylactic shock and the dangers of cross contact.
There is a thirty-question post exam that is unprompted. Upon successful completion of this exam, the student will receive a three-year certificate of completion. The Air Force puts together an execution plan. The Servsafe manager program will be funded by the Air Force personnel center food and beverage ops branch Servsafe manager. Training is required for all primary and assistant food and beverage operators.
Online course can be taken or it can be taught in a classroom setting. We will go through online or classroom training the unit. Training managers are responsible for ensuring training is completed and will be the designated Proctor’s for the Servsafe manager exam. This training program is going to be conducted on a five-year recertification cycle serve.
Food handler training will be centrally funded. It’s required for all employees within a food. Beverage operation online training or classroom is accepted. This is a one-time-only training and there won’t be any recertification cycle. The Servsafe alcohol program will also be centrally funded.
There is a three-year research cycle currently. Servsafe allergens will not be funded, but it is encouraged for anyone wanting to further their training opportunities. The Air Force and the National Restaurant Association have partnered together to create an air force specific portal. It gives us the opportunity to offer a great discount to Air Force personnel and also determine and track who will be using the Servsafe training.
There are four specific fields that you as member of the Air Force community will need to fill out the first time you log in through the air force portal. These custom fields are funding the employee-type activity. Your major command to access the air force portal you need.
You will need to cut and paste the link that is on the screen. If you’re a first time user, you just create a new user profile through Servsafe.com which you will get to by accessing the Portal. You’ll need to fill out the air for specific data fields and you begin the purchase process if you are a returning Servsafe user.
