The following is a tutorial for changing the spam settings of AOL Mail in a non-AOL web browser, to begin open up the AOL homepage, in the top right of the screen you should find the mail icon, click on the icon to sign in.
If you have not chosen to save your login information, enter it in the spaces provided, once you have entered your username and password, click sign in, once you have successfully logged in, look in the top right of the screen that is loaded, locate the options tab which should be underneath your user name in bold. Click on options.
Once you have clicked on options, a pulldown menu will appear, to change the spam settings click on settings, the page that loads will open under general settings, notice on the left side of the screen there are various settings that can be changed.
Click on spam settings, once the spam setting page loads, notice the first option spam filter, this setting can be toggled to prevent or allow additional mail to a user’s inbox, settings are off, low, medium and high, click on the current setting to bring up these options and select your desired setting.
The recommended setting is medium, once the spam filter has been set, the next option is the sender filter, this will further allow the user to block unwanted mail, to toggle these options click on the current selection in green and choose your desired setting.
Additional settings include the content filter and the blocked mail feature, the content filter allows the user to block mail containing specific words and phrases or even mail containing links and picture files, you want to know if you block mail with a specific word or phrase, check the box next to this option and type the desired word or phrase below.
Click on the plus sign when completed to add additional words or phrases, finally the blocked mail options found below will determine whether any blocked mail is delivered to your spam folder or permanently delete it, once all of the desired settings have been entered, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the green button save settings.
The page will indicate in the bottom of the screen that these settings have been saved, once this has been shown, return to the Inbox by clicking on the green button back to mail found in the upper left part of your screen.
