Description: This passage is mainly about atmos energy logi. In this passage, the writer tells us what a gas meter reader does everyday and shows us how to read the meter correctly in case of any gas leak.
Everyone knows that a gas meter has to be read each month for the customer in order to be billed, but how does that information get from here? That’s the subject of this edition of natural gas 101, today we’re in Mansfield Louisiana where I’m talking with senior service tech Robert Vance, and Robert before you can go out and check meters, there’s a step that you have to go through first.
That’s correct Terry, before we begin reading, I have to get the Itron load more routes and Deedle the head out for today, now the route has been loaded, it’s time to go to our first stop, let’s go, Robert we’ve arrived at the first meter of the day, why don’t you walk us through the process of reading a meter? Absolutely we have to go that too.
Robert we’re here at the first meter, what’s the first step? The first thing is that we want to verify that we get the right meter and each meter has a serial number, and in this particular case this meter number is nine seven one eight nine seven, and here mine is at ninety seven one eight nine seven, so we know that this is the correct meter number.
Then the next thing that we need to do is that we’ll look at the index, I have to look at all four dials in order to read this meter, it is ten thousand one hundred thousand a million, so in other words it is very important that you look at all dials, you can see how your hand is going clockwise or counter clockwise in order to reach meter properly.
Now the meter reads six eight four five, and this becomes a fire, this hand here wants to become a complete revolution, it’s going to be on zero, it is going to be on the right hand side of zero before they come a five, this becomes a seven here, this hand here is going to make a complete revolution on zero on the right hand of zero.
That will become a seven, so it’s almost like a second exactly, each hand is very important and then you go hit enter into your own, and if it accepts it, then you go ahead on, it is also important here to remember, it’s calling me to test him, he’s a wonderful testing, when you see this hand moving, it’s either the customer using gas or there’s a leak.
This tells us that the hot water heater and the heating units are on now and it’s the reason why the hand is moving, so it takes an important part to make sure that you observe your hand if the numbers are extremely high, it is an exorbitant number that you’re not used to, what does that tell you? That’s a problem, something is wrong.
We’ll make sure that the meter has many changes then we’ll go in and check out to make sure that it’s not a leak or anything, if no one is in home and it’s high, we’re turning the meter off a safe to leave a blue tail, and when you come home, your call and you will come back to investigate to make sure that there’s no leak.
We’ve read this one, let’s go on to the next one, we’re back at the office in Mansfield now and it’s been a long day, but Robert the day is not over yet, what’s the next step? The next step is to go into the office, put meter run onto the hose and download the information to Dallas, and then the building process will begin, once the information gathered by the meter readers, it has been transmitted into the banner Advantage system.
The next stop is a vendor where the bills are printed and inserted into envelopes along with any inserts that we may want to include that month, and then they are mailed to our customers, neither rain, snow, dark of night or even dogs will stop Robert, and the hundreds of other meter readers in the company from making their appointed rounds every day.
A gas meter may not look like much but think of them as cash registers who are keeping track of how much money is owed by our customers to Atmos energy, when you look at them, they don’t look so bad, that’s for natural gas 101, I’m Terry Briggs.
