Description: This is an article about att net email login, which shows you how to setup a Bellsouth ATT Yahoo email account in Outlook 2013 using IMAP. When you’re using Android devices, iPhones or iPads or other mobile devices, everything stays synchronized, you see the same mail on each device.
I’m going to show you how to set up a BellSouth email account in Outlook, the first way we’re going to do it is through IMAP, I recommend IMAP because that means that Outlook doesn’t pop down a copy of the email, it stays synchronized in real time to the mail server.
It is a little better when you’re using Android devices, iPhones or iPads or other mobile devices, everything stays synchronized, you see the same mail on each device, that’s how we’re going to start out first, what we’re going to do is to go into Outlook 2013 otherwise known as outlook 365, that’s the subscription model.
I’m going to hit add an account, we’re going to type in our name here, I’m going to start typing, we’re going to type in our BellSouth email address, then type in the password for your email account, if you click Next, outlook is going to sit here and struggle as it goes through the email setup database.
It’s not going to return the correct settings for the BellSouth accounts partially because BellSouth did a partnership with Yahoo many years ago to provide the backend services for the email, the best way to do this is a manual setup, we’re going to click Next, let’s set it up as pop or IMAP.
In our first example we’re going to set this up as an IMAP account, our incoming mail server is going to be IMAP dot mail dot yahoo.com, our outgoing mail server or SMTP is going to be smtp.mail.yahoo.com, our username is going to be the full email address, then put in the password for the email account.
The other thing we want to do is to click more settings, we’re going to change our outgoing server settings, we want to check my outgoing server requires authentication, we’re going to go to our Advanced tab, we want to set the incoming to use SSL which will change it to port 993.
In our outgoing server for BellSouth we want to change it to the SSL, we’re going to make it manually, we have to change it to port 465, we click OK, we’re going to click Next, it should successfully log on to the incoming server and send a test message.
We hit close and next, I’m going to test sending out a new email to make sure that everything is functioning fine, let’s send that out, we notice that at the bottom we had a successful sent, I’m going to go into sent item to double check, there’s our successful sent email.
That’s how you set up an IMAP account with a BellSouth email address in Outlook 2013 or outlook 365, this also applies in older versions of Outlook, but I want to caution you that in Outlook 2003 there are some issues with IMAP and some bugs in Outlook, be careful of those, in the next passage I’m going to show you how to set this up as a pop account. Thank you for reading.
