Description: This article is designed to talk about an event called standing out in competitive industries hosted by inspiring future, which is STEM related, the author is going to talk about the sessions.
Today I went for an event called standing out in competitive industries hosted by inspiring future, it is STEM related, so to apply, you have to be in six forms and take two STEM subjects, it was competitive, they have around 60 places and hundreds of applicants from around the U.K., so I was very grateful. Now I’m going to give you a review of the sessions that we went on, what I learned.
At first, it was an introduction, we had to get there 15 minutes early, they took up to the massive building. I think the thing that I enjoy about this event is getting to socialize with people around the U.K., that’s what we did for the first 20 minutes. We chatted with people and get to know each other.
So the first talk was called what a global business looks like. So the talk was from the head of the sales at Citibank and it was more banking and economics focused. He also told us how a day goes on at the Citibank, he starts at 6:30 a.m, and comes to work, and the first thing he and his teams do is to check the news and learn about what is going on in the world. Because they have to predict what effect these things may have on the industry and their clients. And he said that it is a key in global businesses, especially in banking.
There is a thing that is very good in the day which was Q&A session straight after the half-hour-talk, we could all ask questions and talk in the direction that we wanted to. We then spoke to the representatives from Shell, Jaguar, Land Rover and Sky, it was great to talk with them because we can get their experience of working for the current company, what they have learned.
Then we had a how to network session. It was a talk on the best way to network with people and to get the most of things out of it. Then we had a networking lunch, then there are some professional people in the room who you can go up and chat to.
After that, we had a CV bootcamp, which introduces what to put in a CV, how to stand out and we had to send a CV to them. Then we also had recruitment sessions, it tells us what recruiters look for and the recruitment process for most like big businesses.
So it was very interesting, it made me thinking about my career, my personal brand, how to sell myself in competitive job industries, especially how to find a job, what to do after coming out from college, it was very insightful.
Then there was a final Q&A, then we got a goodie bag in which there are events that are running, so I would recommend to Inspiring future website, because they offer different events for teenagers, but most of them are paid.
