Description: This article is going to be talking about the CKA program as well as some features of the ReadWorks organization.
I’m going to be talking about my favorite program that I use in the classroom which is called CKA, it is teaches a lot of phonics and decoding skills but it lacks of literary skills, teaching skills like main ideas, sequence, cause an effect.
This is the home page of ReadWorks, you have to create an account to log in. Once you are logged in, you are going to see some tabs. I will show you the Reading Passages first. As you can see, everything is set up through grade level, lexile level which means the text complexity and many diverse topics.
So this is website is very good because you can find many passages that are related to what you are teaching. Another good thing about this is that there is a reading and listening part, the students can read and listen to the passage as well as the vocabulary that is used in the passage.
If you realize that they are not following or understanding, you can get on to the website, find sequencing, choose the grade level, and the lexile level and you can also write the key words of it. So another thing is that they have Lessons and Units.
As you go in here, you can pick the grade level, choose the type, either comprehension basis or skill&strategy based upon what you want to do. Choose the category based on the type. Then apply. It is a nice and easy process.
If you need to use the standards within your planning, you can click on the grade, then you can see all the standards are set.
