You’re wondering how districts are determined and what your district is, let us take a moment to go through this, now within the province of Ontario, RTO has the electoral districts broken down into six areas.
District one covers the territorial districts of Canora Rainy River and Thunder Bay and has one council and two non council committee seats.
District 2 covers the territorial districts of Cochran – Miska Ming Sudbury Algoma Manitoulin Perry Sam and Nipissing and the District Municipality and Muskoka. There is one council and two non council committee seats.
District three covers the counties of Frontenac Hastings lanark Prince Edward and Renfrew and the United counties of Leeds and Grenville Lennox and Addington Prescott and Russell Dormont Dundas and Glengarry and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton. There is one council and two non council committee seats.
District four covers the counties of halliburton Victoria Peterborough Northumberland and Simcoe and the regional municipalities of Durham York and peel and the City of Toronto. There are two council and two non council committee seats.
District five covers the regional municipalities of Halton Hamilton Wentworth Niagara Waterloo and Haldeman Norfolk and the counties of Brant Dufferin and Wellington and has two council and two non council committee seats.
District 6 covers the counties of grey Bruce here on Perth Middlesex Oxford Elgin Lambton Kent and Essex, there’s one council and two non council committee seats in district six.
Dstrict 7 is made up of districts one to six meaning, district 7 is the province of Ontario, this is the academic member position for council and the candidate holding the academic seat must be a faculty member employed at one of the respiratory therapy programs in Ontario.
What this means is that if you can vote in districts one to six, you will also vote in district 7, there is one council and no non council committee seats for the academic member position all current members who work or live in Ontario have the ability to vote your district will be determined by the address of your primary employer.
If you are not currently employed, your district will be determined by your primary residence within Ontario for example, if you work in Hamilton which is district 5 and live in Mississauga which is district 4, then your electoral or voting district is district 5.
However, if you are not currently working and live in Mississauga, then your electoral or voting district is district 4 therefore to ensure your district is accurately determined, please make sure that any changes to your employment or home address is up to date to confirm your information or if changes are needed, simply updating the information accordingly through the members only area of the crtl website.
If you are not sure what your district is or want to confirm what district you are in, simply go to the elections page at the bottom of the left side menu in the members only area of the crtl website and you can view your district along with information about the upcoming elections.
