Description: The article covers the topic on uprr employees. We can see some information about the Union Pacific jobs. We can know more details from the operations management training program which is a two-fold system, we will be taught some rules about how to do more effectively in terms of process relationships results.
I never noticed trains, I never thought about trains until I started working here, I never thought I would get the chance to do all the things that I did, it changes, you have my extra taste to be able to learn every day and be able to advance within the company.
You think rail cars come in real cars go out, but every day is different, it’s a different chess game everyday, they’re very trusting to say, how do you think we can make this better and run with it?
I’ve heard of that before, it would be interesting job to coming into the OMT program, I didn’t know what to expect and I’m glad that I didn’t know I was getting myself into it, because it made it more fun, how did most people deal with conflict? What’s their approach they walk away from? They avoid it.
What are you doing? The OMT program gives new managers the opportunity to learn the operations on a day-to-day basis for me, someone who’s fresh out of college and young, it’s a direct route into a management role to be within engineering.
Mechanical could be within transportation, the OMP program is a two-fold system, you have more about the classroom setting, we start out in Omaha going through the basics or you’ll spend four weeks learning all the rules that we have out the field and then they teach you about leadership communication how to work in a team, what you have could done more effectively in terms of process relationships results.
Then you’re also going to be able to go out in the field and learn about 30,000 mile railroad, most of your time is spent trying to learn from the men who do the work every day if you come in with an open mind, I don’t know much and I’m willing to learn.
You’re going to succeed, the classroom training is done in conjunction with the field piece of it is that you’re coming across different situations in the field, you’re getting that same training in the classroom, they want you to walk out of here with things that you want to do differently and things you may need to add intermediately.
You come back and spend time with us and then you’ll spend a bunch more time on the field with some on-the-job training for the first year and a half, it didn’t stop as far as traveling, I spent a lot of time in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, California.
Union Pacific goes through 23 States and I went to 21 of them in my first year, I can end up in the hometown or your college town, we’re going to move you, so if I don’t have a pet, it’s not the normal nine-to-five their 12 hour shifts weekend holiday work severe heat cold rain sleet hail of snow.
I’m out there working, it allows somebody who doesn’t know much about the railroad to get steeped quickly in what we’re about, if you know how all the pieces are fitting, you’re going to have a better understanding on how your piece fits in the whole puzzle safety for the day.
Everything froze last night with the cold temperatures, so be extremely careful walking around the tracks, getting on enough equipment three inbounds coming this morning alt G to be after the Metro fleet obviously will be updated.
As we go by break train through on to program, it teaches you how to run a business as a management employee, it is your own small piece of the railroad, you’re in charge of your budget, you’re in charge of your workforce, making sure you build relationships with your crews, eighty percent of my time was out there with the men.
You’re doing audits looking out for their safety, you’re managing people that are older, you have to learn how to work with that and adapt getting dirty with them or in that respect, you have a lot of responsibilities as an auntie, as a transportation manager.
It’s a matter of getting all the cars, put in the right place on the right trains managing all of your employees yardmaster string crews mechanically is broken up into two areas locomotive, making sure that prepared and operating right.
Then on the car side, make sure that all those cars are in working order, I think people would be surprised by how high-tech our systems are that we work with, we’re not your father’s railroad by any means.
Engineering is responsible for the track maintenance, inspecting the track, making sure trains are running efficiently repairing defects got sent to Oregon to work on a mudslide.
We basically rebuilt the side of a mountain when you get through training, you’re placed in the field, transportation is generally placed between 10 and 12 months, mechanical is a little longer going over a year.
If you’re engineering, you’re about a year and a half two, sometimes three years, you’re going to get a lot of responsibility quickly and will prepare you for it, when you try to get over the harbour railroad, they have commuter trains like we do.
Each OMT is assigned a training coach without my coach, I don’t feel as if I would be as confident as I am, everyday is a different puzzle, when you walk in the door, you have an open mind to anything that comes your way.
If you’re eager to learn, you’ll do well here, it’s been a long road and it goes by fast, however, it’s exciting to know what my future can bring kkeok, I feel that my future here is bright if you are willing to work hard.
I think this is a great place for you, as we see a number of people retiring, there’s an enormous amount of opportunity both to move around and up throughout the company, I feel like the relationships you make during these six months are strong even outside on the weekends.
We still hang out, these are long-term friends, Union Pacific is moving everything from the breakfast cereal this morning to the car, you’re going to drive today and we’ve been doing this for a hundred and fifty years.
