I want to share some information with you in regards to couponing at the Family Dollar and utilizing their $5 off $25 purchase. Now, I know most of us have coupon at the Dollar General, utilizing their $5 off 25. But for some of you, I know you may not have a Dollar General because after the store opens on Saturday, the supplies on the shelves have been completely wiped out.
The Family Dollar always takes those coupons that you can get from the Sunday Inserts, the coupon.com or the manufactures websites on which the coupons are on the hang tags of products of PILI’s, they always put the coupons on the products of their own and their brand-name products as well.
So what’s new to me is that the Family Dollar is now trying to get into the digital age, they have rolled out a program called Smart Coupons. If you go to the Family Dollar.com, it will bring you up to a website page where you can log in or create an account. You put in your phone number, email address, full name and you can create account, which is based on your phone number. So you would use that phone number when you check out at the Family Dollar to apply any digital coupons that you have clipped from the website to your account.
I won’t say the Dollar General is bad, but it’s not as convenient as the Family Dollar. So if you happen to be in the store, you see a product that’s on sale or clearance and you want to use the coupon, you would have to go to the website login. Then clip the coupon to your account, which is the same thing as the Dollar General but on the website instead. Now the Family Dollar does allow stacking which means you can use a Family Dollar coupon with a manufacturer coupon on one item. For instance, if you have a Family Dollar coupon and an extra coupon for the lotion, you can use both.
The coupons don’t have any restrictions. The only thing is that you don’t always see the families using their coupons because if your coupon is more than the product’s price, it will automatically drop the coupon value down to what the product costs. Something I can tell you is that they offer family dollar rebate on certain products.
Now you can check other apps to see whether or not they have the Family Dollar coupons so that you can maximize your savings when shopping. But I told you that there was no app transaction, so the weight of $5 off of $25 works in reverse to the Dollar General.
Once you’ve reached a $25 net total at the Dollar General, you would apply your manufacturer coupons to drop down your total, and then your $5 off 25 would apply giving you either a zero subtotal or a few pennies on the dollar. That’s why the Dollar General is such a hot spot and that’s why we love it so much.
The Family Dollar works in reverse, which means they want all of your coupons to be applied first, then their $5 will come off. Now the thing is that in order to make the $5 to come off, your next total has to be $25 after you apply all coupons or discounts. In reality, anything you purchase will end up with a net out-of-pocket of $20 whatever your tax is.
It is bad from a coupon standpoint, especially from an extreme coupon standpoint. I always say that when you’re able to save a dollar on the household products that your family needs and uses, save your need. Don’t get caught up in a situation when you are going to pay more than $5 or you are not going to have a zero out of pocket because that’s not always the reality. When you shop, accelerate the coupons that are available to you, you may not walk out of there with a zero pocket. Maybe you have to pay $2 for $50 worth of product. Don’t get caught up in the height of everything at the end of the day.
Let me tell you how they get the transaction now. I will put in a little pick of the player that sits by the register. So what the cashier does every time is that she scans a product and then she keeps on so she scans the front up and it should spin the coupon, then she scans the products to keep on. She does it every time. Now I have a paper coupon and I will show you how it would work in one transaction to make sure that both paper coupon and digital one work well. But I find it annoying that after she scans the products, they keep on going like this. Apparently, that’s how they want them to do it. It’s written out at the register so that you can see the customer as well as the cashier have to follow the guidelines.
In my opinion, I think that they’re doing that because they don’t want you to give your own subtotal. I think you should have everything scanned through. I’m going to put in my phone number and issue with a skin cream on home coupons. I would have got down to a zero subtotal, but we’re not going to get hung up on that stuff which moves into the transaction, I decide that I want to utilize some of the coupons I have. They are getting ready to expire. So this is a complete halt, all in one transaction. The dollar stock is priced at $3 each, I get four totals and I use $1 off coupon. The lotion’s price at $350 each, I use one paper coupon for $50 off and I’m manufactured when digital coupons work. The skin cream in our skin cleanser is the Family Dollar brand and they are priced at $3 each, there is a 75 cent off of one Family Dollar coupon that I use; The band is priced at $2.50 and I use a $1 off coupon; The eraser is for $1.75 when I use a $2.00 off coupon, it is deducted down to $1.75, because they don’t give out overages; The shady cream is priced at $2.77 and I use a $2.00 off my paper coupons; The shampoo and condition are priced at $3 apiece. I use a $4 paper coupon for one set and then I use another $4 digital coupon for the other set; The noodles are priced at $1 each, so $2 total, I put those in, because I need to get my total over or at the $25 there, the total is $43.20 before applying for my coupon. The total of the coupon is $17.75. After applying the coupon, the total is $25.27, then the $5 off of $25 will come to my account which reduces my total to $20.27.
Another thing I like about the Family Dollars $5 off of $25 coupon is that I have seen that it pumps up online and it’s available throughout the week, so it’s not limited to get the deals on Saturday. You have to rush and fight the crowd, you have all week to shop and do the deal. But the coupon isn’t available every week, it’s very sporadic. You will get an email from the website whenever it pops up or any new coupons are added, but there is coupon available every Saturday on the Dollar General. So if they were dollars, the next time I saw that $5 off a $25 pop up, I would plan to utilize it and try to buy their food and grocery items, because the Family Dollar have some good prices on their own food. So I want to try that out next time. If I do, I will bring that to you.
