We’re going to go ahead and create a new grade book. We’re going to create categories for our assignments will create a new assignment. I’ll show you how you can begin inserting a student scores into that gradebook.
First, you need either start up Firefox or Internet Explorer your web browser. Once that web browser starts up, you’re going to navigate to the Ares net portal we have in the school district. Web address is the Word net portal all one word and then the district domain.
Type in the words Ares.net, then hit Return. You’ll be brought to the page for logging in. I’m going to go ahead and log in with another teachers account, put their information in, then click login. We’re going to delete some old grade books, and clean up our grade book. On the left-hand side you’ll notice your navigation.
I’m going to select gradebook. It’s going to show me my current grade books, which says Edit. This particular link under the Edit menu is where you do all your additions and subtractions. It’s got these little symbols in front of it primarily because the dates associated with this particular grade book are not the correct are not the current dates. You’ll notice this start date for this gradebook until the fourth of March.
It goes towards the end of the school year. Anytime you see these less than symbols surrounding one of your gradebook names because the dates are either not current or they’re off. It’s a date in the future, but we’re going to go ahead and get rid of this. On the bottom of my screen, you’ll notice a series of icons. The one for getting rid of a great book is the trash will.
Once I delete this gradebook and those scores are kaput. I’m sure I want to delete this, so I’m going to click Yes to deletes that particular grade book. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t leave a grade book in your account. At the end of the school year, you could always go back in there and reference multiple grade books if necessary. I have no grade books. We’re going to go ahead and create our first grade book. It is how this window will look the first time. You’ve logged in to the gradebook in Aries net, so the only button enabled on the left is the button for creating a gradebook.
If I click add a grade book, it’s going to prompt me for some information about this particular grade book. It is going to be an average grade book, which is not tied to any standards. We don’t worry about standards in the grade book tying any of our assignments to a grade book. I’m going to give this gradebook a name. We’re going to give it a term. We’re going to do trimester three.
I’m going to put the start date and make it for a trimester which is roughly March 4th and have it end at the end of the school year. I could go ahead and add a comment.
If I wanted to but to save time, I’m going to click the Save icon which is the little old-fashioned floppy disk that. We will go ahead and save that grade book into my grade book, so we can have multiple grade books.
I’m keeping grades for Math Science, Social Studies, Fine Art and so on. You’re scoring the kids and giving them a grade. You could create a gradebook. You need to get creative on how you score their assignments in that particular grade book. But we’ll make this the language arts gradebook. I’m going to create some categories for this gradebook.
We have added the category which is Enabled. I’ve got my gradebook selected for language arts. I’m going to add some categories for language arts, so let’s make this reading category. I’m going to click the Save icon again and go back up to language arts.
I’m going to create another category and save that one. I’ve got two categories underneath my language arts gradebook. I will further create some assignments that fall within those categories. I’m going to do one here for spelling to come down here to the third button, and then click Add An Assignment.
We’ll call this spelling test. I need a spell and test myself. Let’s fix that spelling test. Its formative could be summative or formative depending on how you know your preferences or what type of spelling test.
If it’s the end of a chapter, it is a summative. But we’ll make this one formative the sign date. We could make this any time we want. We’ll say it’s for this coming Friday. With that information, we can drop down to the next row of selections exam ID.
We don’t have to worry about those because those are related to another component in Aries net which we may or may not use in the future. We will ignore those settings max score. Let’s say the spelling test has 20 words in it. We’ll make it worth 20 points. For this particular assignment, it’s not going to be given until Friday is not visible on the portable.
I could add a comment if those comments will show to parents when they’re logged into the parent portal. They’re looking at their child’s assignments. They’d see comments related to this particular spelling test. I will save this particular assignment under the spelling category.
We have an assignment, namely a spelling test underneath our category of spelling which is found within our gradebook language arts. We will exit and add students. I’ll show you how to give students marks in the spelling assignments.
This new little button appears on my screen. You have students to be added to or dropped from your gradebook that is a button. If I click it, it’ll allow me to add students to that gradebook. I create it and click Enter.
Here’s the gradebook. I’m going to select it. All these students could be added to your gradebook. I could go through here and individually add each one at a time because I know this is my third grade class. I’m going to add all students and add them directly into that particular grade book.
There are no more students to add or delete from any of my grade books. So I can exit. If I want to start entering scores for spelling test one, I can do that by student’s name by clicking on the field.
It’s something where it’s a credit or no credit. Most of your kids did this assignment. It was something they turned in. It wasn’t a spelling test, you could do this by assignment type, so we could select assignments shows all my assignments.
This particular spelling test was a credit. Say everybody was in attendance and all got credit for doing it, I could give them all credit in this case a max score of 20 for this particular assignment by making that score. The default scores for the eggs for all my students. At the bottom, you’ll see default score.
I’m going to set that to 20 and say overwrite existing values definitely do that because I have one student here at the top that I only gave us 17. I could go ahead and click change default. It will go through and give every student in my class for this particular spelling test.
If I chose to override the current score that we created automatically, so that’s how you clean up a grade book by deleting old grade books about the dates associated with grade books.
Why they have those little less than and greater than symbols around them? In some cases, we also need know about how to create grade books, how to create categories under a grade book, how to create assignments under the grade book.
Once you’ve done how to add students into a gradebook, ultimately how to give students scores for particular assignments in your grade book.
