It should be a similar view, so there are a couple changes. Whatever time of the day, it will pop up if you are in the middle of fourth period, which will automatically show up when you go to click on attendance. I mark all students as Present for the first period, but I take that out for the time being.
Assuming that Jason walks in 15 minutes late, he’s got an unexcused tardy slip. I’m going to change that from absent to tardy. Does it automatically no need to go back? It’s nice and convenient if you need to access student data.

I’m wondering how long of a period she’s been absent, so I need check the attendance detail. If you like do all these codes and letters mean, click on it. It shouldn’t be another familiar site, so this is where you can look at attendance history. Furthermore, the legend for what all those letters mean that’s pretty much. As far as the basics are concerned, there’s a lot more options.
A lot of information is self-explanatory, but I’m hitting the basics, so let’s go to the gradebook now. When you first found out that we will not use EGP anymore, I’m using Ares ABI because for personally. I’ve used it before and I’m familiar with it. If you’re like me, you’d been using ares ABI all year. All that information I’ve uploaded, such as my assignments, rubrics and grades automatically transferred over to the new ares dotnet gradebook. But if you have not been using ares ABI, I will show you how to get it set up. When you first log in, you should see a blank screen like this rather than adding grades.
Let’s go to mass add grade books. All your classes will show up. I teach English 9 honors 9cp and 11 CP, so mine would reflect what you’re showing. But I’m going to the teacher aid stuff now. I’m going to select two American history classes and three world history classes and hit Next. Our term should be automatically created.
I’m not sure if it’s going to be but in case you have term One, Two, Three, Four, Fall, Spring or Year. We typically go by semesters so what fall and spring represents so. I select it, which will create it and make it for all those gradebook. So I fall and create grade books.
The next thing I need to do is add some students. I’m going to go click on that box, which will take me here when I click on first period. Here are all the students I need to add. You can click over on here underneath the action and add them individually. But it is not necessary what you want to do is add all students unless for some specific reason you need to add them individually. But yours should be updated as they are in areas when you take attendance, so we will finish adding these students and choose it.
You’ve got students now. We need to link grade books, each of those honors classes in each of those CP classes for the honors classes. If I’m doing assignments in one honors class, I’m doing those assignments in another honors class. When I create an assignment for the honors class, it would be convenient if it would automatically populate it to the other honors class. That’s what it is doing, so you can group certain periods or certain classes together to start off when they are at zero. It means they are ungrouped, but these are two American history classes, so I’m going to make these two group one. These are three honors world history classes, so I’m going to make these groups two because I’m for these two.
I am creating the same grading categories and same assignments, going for these three honors world history classes. I’m going to save that. If I go back to link grade books, you’ll see they have been segregated into individual groups which is exactly what I wanted.
I’m going back to dashboard. I’ll show you real quick tiles list and table are just three different options for viewing the stuff. If you’re in tiles which works best, if you’re using an iPad, you can click on details. It’ll show you the options there same thing with lists details will be right. Personally, I like table because they’re all there. It’s just my preference, so I’ve linked grade books. I need to add grading categories, so it’s not all of us do weighted scoring. I need to add a new category.
I’ll make this class work slash homework. We’ll call that 30% of the grade so when I click off that, it’s yelling at me because it’s not a hundred percent. Please correct this immediately, so I’m going to add another category. We’ll call it exams. We’ll make the other 70 percent. It’s not yelling at us anymore.
I’m going to save that now when I go back to my dashboard. It has changed from add categories to add assignments because periods 1 & 2 are linked. It’s created the categories for period 2 as well. Let’s do the same thing. I’m going to create categories for Honor’s world history period 3. When I complete it, it’ll make those categories for periods 4 & 6. I add categories, wait at scoring and it will do the same thing. We’ve got our categories that change to add assignments, so I need to add some assignments.
When we come back to school, we mean a small easy grade for students good. I do bring ring classroom materials, because they need a spiral. That is why I make it an easy grade for them. You can add a description. I’ll say materials listed on the syllabus. We go formative summative. You can select either option if you want.
Here’s where you can indicate which category it’s going to be class or homework or exams. Those are what we created extra credit, so I’ll go over what these two mean in a second. However, these are essentially the point values you’re associating with that particular assignment. If it’s extra credit, it’s going to eliminate that field because it assumes it is worth zero points. If you give them five points out of zero, that’s extra credit. But this is not an extra credit assignment narrative grading again.
Click on the calendar click when you assign the assignment. The due date number correct possible vs. points possible. There are five things I need them to bring, so I need them to bring you know something with a notebook a high. I mean they need highlighters, loose-leaf paper. The need of folder to store their English documents in so that’s five things now when I click off this.
It’s going to make that worth five points, which equals the number you put in there. Let’s say each thing they bring is worth two points, so this is going to be a ten-point assignment. If you gave out a quiz and the quiz had five questions, but you wanted each question to be worth say ten. We’ll say it worth five points, so it’s a five-question quiz, but it’s worth 25 points.
If you grade those quizzes somebody gets four out of five correct, that means they got 20 out of 25 points. You can customize it in any way you want, but that’s a simple explanation of what it means so. But we’ll do five and ten.
All you need to know what portal is. When they access their grades, it will be visible to portal when I create this assignment. That is going to be visible to students and parents.
If you want to create an assignment, you don’t want them to see it. Yet just unclick that whatsoever, but personally as soon as I create an assignment, they can see it score visible to portal what that is. When you are inputting grades, as you input them students and parents are able to see those scores.
Provided you don’t want anybody to know their grade until you have finished grading, you can unclick that. As you’re inputting grades, they will not see the scores. But if you don’t care, people see their grades right away or later.
What I typically do is I leave this unchecked, because I like to input the grades, make sure everything is correct and set before I have it affect their overall grade. So I’m going to leave that unchecked for now, but I’m going to go ahead, save and close this. I’ve created my first assignment. I created it for first period but it will have also created it for this second period as well. I need to input great. I will then edit the scores by assignment. It will bring me to number one, but if you need to edit the assignment, click on it and make edits. I’ve only got the one. But they’ll all show up on this little tab where I can go ahead and input this.
Jason brought four out of five. He gets eight points out of ten points, but all my students were brilliant. They brought all their classroom materials on time. I’m going to do massive sine values, which means I’m going to give everybody in the class the same grade because they brought their assignments. I will change number correct to five and override existing values because it’s overwrite.
Everybody’s got five points but James did not bring his class materials. I’m going to take that away. We are going to leave it blank, but everybody’s done and we don’t have to input any additional grades. The grading is completed. It is affecting everyone’s grade permanently including James.
James was added later to the class. I’m not going to do this assignment form. I’m changing it to N/A, which means it doesn’t apply to him. Another option is T/X, namely temporarily excuse. You don’t need it but you’ll need it in the near future.
I’ll give you two days. After those two days, James still did not bring in his classroom materials. We will take that out. It shows us a missing assignment for him. That’s really it for attendance in gradebook if you need to get back to the main menu.
