My name is Elizabeth Turner and I’m going to be your English instructor this quarter. To begin with, I’d like to share a little bit of personal information about myself, including my educational background and some of my interests, I’m 27 years old and I live in the Kutztown area. I have a postgraduate degree from the University of Sterling and Sterling Scotland, and it’s a master of letters in the Gothic imagination. And I also have my undergraduate degree from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Arts in English literature.
In my free time, I enjoy photography, traveling, hiking, blogging, collecting comic books and spending time with my family. As evident from my degree program, I’m an avid book lover, specifically those fall under the category of the Gothic. Though I’m not limited to this area, I also enjoy Victorian literature modernism, post-modernism, blank fiction, transgressive fiction poetry and also composition.
Like many of you, I was a non-traditional student during both my undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. Not only did I live off campus, but also I worked full-time, although it took me longer than I originally anticipated. I graduated with my bachelor degree in English literature in 2014 and a year after that, I decided to continue my education abroad with my family.
I know firsthand what it’s like having other commitments in your life, and my goal is to help you meet your own educational goals. We’re going to focus on reading, writing, research and comprehension skills, all of that can be integrated into your daily life, as well as helping you build a strong foundation for future success.
I like to make class as exciting, fun and creative as possible. I’m a very visual learner, so I often integrate visual aids into the classroom, whether it is through PowerPoint videos or pictures. I want the information to come alive and resonate with my students well. After class, I want to get to know all of your interests, passions and ambitions, I’d like to share information about myself as well.
I believe it’s incredibly important to build strong relationships in the classroom and we can do this by communicating with one another as well as bringing our own experiences and perspectives to the table. I believe that we can all learn something from one another. Moreover, I believe that students learn best when they’re in an interactive environment rather than a traditional lecture style classroom.
My classes will be highly interactive and we often hold incorporate class discussion and composition, when we’re able to get our own thoughts and ideas out in the open. Every voice is welcome, every voice matters in this conversation, as an English instructor, it is my goal to motivate and inspire students to reach their full potential, this can only happen if they feel capable, comfortable and confident both in and out of the classroom.
I’m here to help you at every step of the way, whether you need technical support help with proofreading and editing understanding informational literacy, or need academic advice, I’m here to support you and help you succeed. I’m incredibly excited about teaching a class on writing and composition, as well as helping you meet your educational goals. I look forward to meeting you soon.
