The advantage for our districts really comes into play, as it relates to being a self off district where we did everything ourselves. Compared to having Sodexo as a partner with us, in the Sodexo partnership, they bring so many skills and knowledge that we never realized we weren’t getting until we were able to bring them on board, and things like training for our staff ongoing improvement.
I think many school districts are complacent. When things run smoothly, everybody assumes everything’s fine. We didn’t realize it was a whole another level of improvement we could reach. It is what Sodexo continually works. It’s a report for us focusing on what we’re good at, not having to worry about food service and custodial maintenance yards.
Over the last five years, we have been able to dominate the top spot in academics and southwest Missouri. We’re fortunate that that’s happening with our partnership with Sodexo. It has made a difference, and we have Sodexo that really takes care of the food matters and the maintenance, which lifts a lot off of the principal’s plate because we are able to truly be educational leaders and let the people that have the expertise in the other areas take care of it.
It weren’t really using all their benefits to what you could and we realized principals need to just be principals. They don’t need to be fooling with any of that. Then, we started helping the treasurer taking some things off, so that we would do the financials and they didn’t have to do that. Gradually, they could see how much we were helping them.
Before we had Sodexo, we had people that worked for our building that were not specialized in each area. By having Sodexo, we have a true team that handles any issue that we have. Therefore, if we have a maintenance issue, the maintenance team comes right out and handles that issue quickly and efficiently.
One thing I could say that I really like about my job is making a difference. It’s just so gratifying to come in and look at something and know that you’ve made a change of something for the better, when they come in those blue shirts the jobs get done.
We take delight in knowing that I don’t have to keep hounding somebody. I know that when I put in a work order, they’re going to show up and get the job done. We’ve increased our participation in the lunch program by 15 to 16 percent year-over-year. We were able to concentrate on the key matter that we do which is education, instead of not food service or restaurant management. After six weeks of Sodexo being here, I would not wish to go back to doing it in house ever again.
Wanting the work to be done better, faster and for less money, it turned out that Sodexo is dying both in food service and in custodial maintenance facilities. If you will, we’ve got more work done better than ever before and for a very fair price.
