Description: VU University Amsterdam’s alumni have high-ranking jobs and industries as well as academic research, some are also closely connected to many large companies, and the school encourages student to start their own business.
Our university is quite a high-ranking research university. Naturally, many of our alumni also end up in quite high-ranking jobs and industries as well as in academic research. To date, our university is closely connected to many large companies and then a large part of our students also decide to start their own company.
Entrepreneurial spirit is definitely an important thing that we encourage in students. What is really unique at university doing a master course is that we always have group assignments and within these group assignments. We are really intellectually pushed and encouraged to think critically. We have to collaborate in one group with different people from different countries. There are conflicts or pressure like in a real working environment. However, it’s challenging task to carry out and you can make some friends.
First of all, I’ve been to Amsterdam before and absolutely fell in love with the city. I thought it was gorgeous. I liked the food in Amsterdam and I was searching for a study within my field. I had very particular needs to acquire some knowledge that I wanted to acquire. What I really liked about the master program I am pursuing is called Culture Organization Management. It’s a very unique program and there’s nothing like that in all of other European universities.
Personally, when it comes to teaching method, I liked at the few universities that they have these periods throughout the academic year. We have up-to-date articles with good teaching materials to better understand.
In a design a mix of that course in a specific area, you are studying it and you have these periods. You only have it to study and acquire a deep knowledge in those articles. In the end of the period you have to pass the exam. In this way, it’s easy step-by-step learning with small proportion.
The uniqueness in our department is that we combine different fields such as Human Movement Sciences, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Orthopedics or other health sciences. We combine it with experimental research skills, which is what bring a lot of originality to a department.
Amsterdam is really amazing. It’s like a vibrant city. It’s small, so if you have a bike, you can easily get around fast and everything is really close. The houses are amazing, which is related to the Dutch culture. I think they are friendly, open-minded, curious and acceptable towards new culture.
Many students look for jobs after they graduate, and the large part of them does that in the Netherlands where we have quite a good system. Our government allows students from non EU countries to stay for up to one year to find a print appropriate job. We call that a search here, and the EU students from the EU area are free to move around and find jobs within that EU zone.
I get a lot of support from the food team. During my application process, they helped me with applying my student visa with the Immigration Services in Holland. Meanwhile, they helped me with a student grant that I was applying for. It was quite complicated for me being international student, because I’m not aware of the procedure here in the Netherlands. In a word, the team has helped me a lot.
The application process is online, so students get to knock on our digital door and send us all their application documents. What we highlight mostly as academic performance, so we’ll look at transcripts at previous education, maybe at the types you have done in the past, or the types of literature you’ve used during those courses.
The second thing we focus on is your entire profiles or your motivation, your CV and your thesis you’ve written in your batch. One interesting thing about VU is that it tries to attract International talents through the fellowship program scholarship.
Once I applied for the Master Program, I also applied for the scholarship and I was one of the nominated for it. That was how I got to come over here and my tuition was fully covered by the scholarship and alongside. I addition, they also offer a lot of career advice and organize networking events to put these fellowship students in touch with major companies in Amsterdam to get your career started.
