Description: The author wants to tell us some information about Clever Portal which is a new tool to be used in Hastings this year to access some of the tools provided to students.
I will talk about Clever which is a new tool that we will start using here in Hastings this year to access some of the tools that we provide to you and to students.
So I walk you through a little bit about what clever is and what it looks like, and if you stick around at the end a little bit of troubleshooting for, if you have any kind of issues with it. So the idea is that we have access to many different tools out there, it’s different for every student and every teacher, they’re scattered throughout the internet.
So there’s no real easy way for our students to get there or for teachers to get there. And once we get there, we often have to remember different passwords and different usernames for each different tool. Sometimes that’s enough to turn us off to technology.
It streamlines all of that, all the different tools that we have throughout the district will be linked in to clever, thus you go to one place to get to everything you need. In some cases, we’ll work with power school and set up all of your classes, it sets up usernames and passwords. And the nice thing is that it actually stores those passwords, so students don’t have to remember an additional I ready password.
They need to get into clever to get into I ready, this has a bunch of links to different tools that you have access to. And we’ll get a little bit deeper to this in a minute. The reason why this is important is that using clever helps us manage our students’ privacy, we have more control over where your data goes over the Internet, where we weren’t using clever.
So it helps us with manage privacy, it also helps with security. Because some passwords stored. The clever portal makes it much easier to create a better password, so it makes your accounts a little more secure.
Lastly, having all of your tools in one place, whether you’re a student or a teacher, makes it easy to get to where you need to go. And if we can eliminate that password step, it makes it a good streamlined tool to get you where you need to go quickly. So you can spend more time doing the important things instead of tackling the tech issues. So to get to clever, you can go to this website, here clever comm slash I n slash H a SS k12, you can type that in your browser and hit enter.
We’ve also included two other ways to get there to make it easy for you, if you’re using the Chrome browser and you sign in, you’ll notice that. There’s a little clever icon up here, you can click on that and it will take you to your portal. Also, if you’re using a Chrome book, you should see this little clever portal button down here on your toolbar, so I’m going to click up here.
And when it loads, it’s going to look like this, you have two options to sign in. The first is a clever badge, clever badges are set up for yunkai through to classrooms and Hastings, and I’ll talk a little bit more about what that means. But if you’re working with any student anyone else in the district, especially if you’re on a Chromebook, all you need to do is to click on log in with Google, depending on how you’ve got it set up.
It may ask you which account you want to log in with, you need to use your Hastings account in order to log in. When you log in, it will look similar to this. I have some administrator rights, so it might look a little bit different. But for the most part, they look the same.
At the top will be your staff tools, these are all the things that were on the staff links web page that you may have accessed, many of these link directly out to some of the tools and resources that you would need to use throughout the school year down here.
You’ve got assessment so these are links. I will say I ready is one that stores your passwords for you, so you don’t have to remember those. In fact, when you want to get your kids on, you won’t be able to go to the old route, where you can type in. You actually have to go in the clever, and click on I ready icon.
Students will also see some of these depending on how we’ve set it up for them. They’ll see things like roductivity apps, you would have curriculum tools. So once we set those up, we set up the better, because we’re going to one place, so there’s not a whole to the portal, but it gets you off to where you need to go quickly.
Many of you are using lots of different apps websites tools out there, but it doesn’t show up in the clever portal and you’d like it to be there. That is no problem, we need to know what tool you want to add, it’s helpful if you can include a link.
We can set the permission for students or teachers or for a specific school if that makes sense, all you need to do is to get that information to us, if you need any help with the clever portal, you can always sign up for a time with me at calendly comm slash keith tramper or just shoot me an email, and I’m happy to swing by.
If you want to stick around for some troubleshooting and clever badges, I’m going to talk about that for another minute; otherwise have a great first week at school and I hope that you have a great year, if you’re sticking around for troubleshooting, we will talk about how you help students get logged in.
We all know that just about every tool, we’ve ever gotten kids into, there’s that one kid that just can’t sign-in and rather than lose a lot of learning time an instruction time clever has made a simple solution for this. As a teacher when you log in, you’ll see this as your portal, you can click on students up on the top.
And when you click on students, it will bring up a class list, and if you needed to help a student, Kristen Stark needed some help. When you click on her, it gives you the option to generate a one-time login code. So for you, you’ll click generate code whoops and it will generate a code on your screen.
When you give that code to your student to login, they can go into the clever portal, they can click on forgot password and type in their one-time login code, thus you can generate that code and they can get into what they need to get into. You don’t lose a lot of learning time now that doesn’t fix the issue, you still want to put in a ticket for for assistance here, but this is a way to get around it for the time being, so you don’t lose out on that instructional time.
If you’re using clever badges, you can print them yourself. I will provide them for you for the beginning of the year here, but you are always able to go in and print your own, you can also print them for new students that get added to your classes. So you go to that same students tab up on the top of your portal, and then you can either click on print a class set of badges, which is what you’ll do at the beginning of each year or each semester.
If you’re switching classes, you can click on that student’s name to generate a clever badge for that kid. So Stephen Robel lost his badge, or it got ruined, you could go there and print one just for him. You can also void it, if you suspect another student stole stephen’s badge, you can void that QR code that was assigned to him a new one by clicking on his name.
So those are two things that I think will help you as you roll out clever this year, and I wish you the best of luck. If you need any support, don’t hesitate to get a hold of me.
