Description: The article presents the DCPS Focus Parent Portal which is a website tool for parents to see students’ individual information such as grades, current attendance record and academic progress.

The progress report is broken out by tests quizzes and homework, it shows what the teacher has currently posted, each class may have different grading criteria, some grades may be weighted and others may not be.

Let’s look at the tests and we can see chapter 1 tests on test 1, this student scored an 80% test to a 67% and tests 3 scored a 95% and line beneath shows category analysis and this shows total points earned divided by total points for the test category grade.

This student earned an 80 point 6 7 % quizzes and homework are very much the same as our tests as each class instructor posts their grades, the progress reports will be updated.

In this way, the student and you stay up to date on academic progress, being at school ensures academic success.

Let’s take a look at the attendance option which is located under the report card option by clicking attendance, you can view your child’s current attendance record by date, you can see total days present and absent, you can also look at each date, today’s in attendance and for those days, your child may have been out.

This video provided an introduction to using Parent Portal, we looked at how to obtain your login account, how to access the site, we looked at the valuable resources available in the dashboard and how to view your child’s grades.

There are more ways on how you can track your child’s academic progress, you can always log on to do all schools org Duval County Public Schools provides a website tool for both parents and students that allows you to see individual student information such as grades, calendars, attendance.

It’s called DCPS Parent Portal and it gives parents and students instant access to grades, it will also save teachers faculty and staff time that they would normally take in processing grades.

Let’s head inside and see how you can stay connected to your child’s academic progress. First, you need a computer with access to the Internet and an internet browser such as Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

In addition, you need a username and password which are issued by your child’s school, to get a username and password, you’ll need to go to your child’s school, present your ID and they will be happy to create your account.

Once you have your username and password, you’re ready to get connected, you can access Parent Portal from your child’s school website or the Duval County Public Schools website under student or parent resource.

Enter your username in the login screen, if you’ve lost your password, you will need to contact your school’s portal manager and they will be happy to assist you.

Once you successfully log in, you will see the dashboard screen, this is the main screen in the center, you have announcements communications from teachers and the district further down the page.

You and your child have a variety of academic resources like electronic textbooks and research options to help enhance the learning experience on the far left-hand side of the page.

We see various choices related to your child, the first choice we’ll look at is the calendar section, this is the one with the small icon that looks like a calendar, by clicking this, it will expand down to show you various calendars, the calendar offers you a look at upcoming holidays events and more under calendars.

We see the link of the teachers’ website which has the small world image, when you click this, all your child’s teachers are listed, you can access each of your child’s teachers’ websites.

The websites offer news information and more to help your child succeed the next option to view your child’s grades and attendance each school year.

There is a folder image with the school year, when you expand the folder, you will see report card and under attendance, first let’s look at report card by clicking on the report card image, we see that year’s report card on the right-hand portion of the website.

We can see each class is displayed in rows and each column represents the teacher, the semester and the grade which are in blue and are underlined.

Let’s look at Language Arts, it’s the third class listed in the course column, the teacher is Smith M who is listed under the instructor column, in this example, we’re also in the first semester, there are no other grades listed in m p2 mp3 and so on in language arts.
