This side of the laboratory is where we conduct our clinical insurance wellness and lab car testing, all the specimens are received and processed, utilizing touchscreen and bar coding technology to capture the specimen number type and condition of the container. The specimens are staged in racks to be prepared for laboratory testing by the central processing department, once a package is opened, two tubes are sent immediately for testing.
These are the serum specimen and the urine screening tube, this process developed using Six Sigma methodologies ensures fast and accurate results. At this point, there is no longer a name attached to the specimens, they are only linked in the system via the barcode, this allows us to track specimens location in the testing process at any time.
The specimen requisitions and paperwork are sent to the imaging department for our exam, we utilize some of the most advanced imaging equipment available today. As soon as packages are opened in the warehouse and bar-coded, the paperwork heads down to be imaged. Our Insurance imaging department processes almost 9.5 million pages a year, approximately 37,000 per day.
It is the only imaging Department of its kind in North America and processes images from the US, Canada, Mexico, South America and the Caribbean, our emphasis on Six Sigma projects has helped achieve this volume and improve our turnaround time. All paperwork is imaged 24 to 48 hours after it is received at the lab, approximately 80% is imaged the same day, being one of the largest testing centers in the world, it isn’t enough.
In the exam one research and development department, we are constantly improving and developing new testing methods assays and reagents, one of our custom reagents used for in and wellness testing is cotinine which allows us to test for nicotine, these in-house capabilities allow us to control costs and help stay innovative exam.
Once laboratory research and development team also conducts in-depth analysis of our testing data, our extensive set of data reaches back to 1992 and is comprised of more than 54 million individuals.
This information combined with the Social Security Death Master File was compiled and analyzed to create a unique risk score for each individual, this risk IQ score uses a multivariate statistical analysis and has been found to have a strong correlation to preferred class ratings, this dedication to research innovation and technology ensures our clients are using reliable results to make their most important decisions.
