Description: This articles mainly talks about some basic function of Focus, how to enter grades and assignments in the Focus Gradebook.
We are going to learn something about our Focus accounts and how to enter grades and assignments in our gradebook.
Once you log in, you’re going to see your portal, you will have alerts over here, you will have upcoming events that your campus will enter, you’ll have a birthday list down here, you have Focus University courses. When you learn Focus for the first time, I would encourage everyone to take the time to click on and watch the videos.
If you come over here to your students tab, click on the name of the student, it will bring you the student’s information and some of their demographic information. Click on the student schedules, it will bring up the individual student schedule and which the teacher is.
Over here you can print the letters, send emails to your students’ parents, you can print labels, do advance reports which are very handy, when you are trying to get information together. If you click on more search options, you can pull them by specific grade levels, by scheduling you can run absences, discipline, you can choose what information to show in your report.
You can make the changes and then click Run Report, Focus will think about it, and pull a report which is based on the history. We don’t have any test information here, but once we go through the year, you can utilize the grades with which you can make your own gradebook.
If you’d like to see the newest assignments, you can classify them by date or or alphabet manually. Here are some introductions on how to use the gradebook, you will use the asterisk to exclude the grade from grade calculations when you don’t want a student to be penalized for an assignment. It will remain zero unless you go back and enter those grades.
Gradebook categories and assignments is the place where it’s going to show your assignment categories formative or summative which should have been set up. If you have any issues, please contact with Brandon Thompson and it will be fixed.
You can use the report to do a lot of things, you can use the gradebook to audit trail and students’ participation, to update the grades’ report cards. If you want to check on your attendance discipline, this is where you click to add a referral. If you want to view referrals, you can go in here. If you need to add a referral for a student, you click on My Information.
You can click on My Profile to bring up your information, and you can set your display options, reset your password, see the students listed in the gradebook. If you want to reset your password, you can click here, type in your new password and verify it.
If you want to see other information, you can come here and click on any of these, then it will display in your gradebook. If there’s a group of teachers who are teaching one subject, you can come here, and click on the subject, then all of their names will be shown here, and you can put their names here to keep track.
Then you have some district reports, save reports and publish reports that you may have created, which you can find here, it will take a moment to open, then you can get enrollment totals and here are some teachers’ reports that you can run.
We are now going to go into our gradebook and once your gradebook opens, its going to list the students alphabetically, you’ll have your codes or icons, you will get familiar with these codes. We’re going to show you how to add an assignment, you’ll click Add An Assignment, the box will come up, you will title your assignment, you can change your due date which has to be within three weeks.
If you would like to add a description, you can do that in the district description box. If you have any documents that you want your students to see, you can drag them into the box. Once you are done, you can click Save, and it will be posted.
Once you are ready, you can click here and you will enter your grades, and then you tab down as you are entering, the Save button will turn red and gray as it auto-saves. Once you have finished one, and you want to add another, you can click up here to add another. You can type in everyone’s grade and you can do the autofill points which you can change to formative or summative, you have to make sure that the assignment dates fall within our time period, and click Save.
For progress reports, you will simply enter your grades into your gradebook, and they will pull the grades, print your progress reports and hand to you and you will send them to each student’s home at posting time which will be the nine weeks.
You can click on use gradebook grade, it will ask you if you are sure to use it, and you can click OK, here you can see the grades, and you can add comments, your conduct and source, citizenship will be entered here, you need to make sure that you enter that on your homeroom classroom. Once you’re done with that, you will click Save.
You can either go back into your gradebook, change an assignment grade and repost or you may override this grade and simply click Save, you can do that for any grade that you need to change whether it’s up or down. Verify all the grades after you have finished, and then let your team specialist know that you complete posting and she will run the proof sheet.
Once you get your proof sheets, you have to look at all the grades for all of the courses you teach to verify them, then you will sign off on every proof sheet. Remember to sign your name and date using blue or black ink. After that, you will return it to the specialist and they will create your report card, if you have any changes to make, you have to do in red ink, then repeat the procedure.
If you go in the gradebook and it doesn’t work, please clear browsing history and reenter, if it still doesn’t work, contact your specialist. I hope this is helpful, if you have any questions, please contact with us.
