We appreciate all of the parents’ efforts to ensure that your student is successful this school year, we are offering to specific opportunities for you to follow your child’s progress this year, we are continuing to utilize parent portal as a way to track your students attendance and grades.
We have added canvas as an opportunity to view more information regarding your child’s learning to access Parent Portal begun by opening your web browser and going to the district website at WWF or knee is danette.
Next, click the drop down menu for students and parents scroll down the list until you see the link, parent portal click, you should be at the information page for accessing Parent Portal.
Near the bottom of the page, click the blue text that says click here to proceed to parent portal, be sure that you have enabled pop-ups for your browser, next, you should see a welcome screen with links for new and existing users.
If this is your first time logging into parent portal, click the new users link to register as a new user, you will need your name and email address as well as your student’s birthdate and ID number.
When you have completed all of the fields in the form, click the blue submit button, once you have logged into parent portal, you can view important information about your child such as attendance and grades for report cards and progress reports.
Now beginning in August 2015, forney isd has moved from a six weeks to a nine weeks grading cycle, what this means for you is that your child will receive a digital progress report following the third and sixth week of the grading period.
You will receive a digital report card following the ninth week of the grading period, parent portal is the place where you can view these digital reports, now that you know about parent portal, let me tell you about our new learning management system.
This year, we are inviting all parents to sign up for canvas as an observer to set up your canvas observer account begun by opening your web browser and going to the district website at WWF.
If this is your first time to log into canvas, click the red ribbon that says parent of a canvas user, click here for an account.
Next, you will need to provide your name and email address, you will also need your child’s user name or ID number and their password, if you do not know your child’s password, you will need to ask them for it.
Once you have created your observer account, you can add additional students by clicking settings at the top right hand side of the screen, then the link that says observing at the bottom of the left hand menu simply provide the username and password for each of your students and add them to your observer account.
Once you have set up your observer account, you’ll begin to have a window into your child’s class, the best place to see the big picture for what is going on in your child’s classes is to click the calendar icon at the top of the screen here.
You will be able to see many of the activities that teachers have uploaded for your child’s classes, now that you know how to access canvas, let me take a moment to explain our timeline for this implementation.
This is a learning year for your student and teachers, we all get to know canvas, some of our teachers may have every activity, quiz, test, project and assignment, visible in their courses, while others may only show major assessments as any new technology.
There will be changes, as we continue to grow, build and learn, you will truly have a window into your child’s class, we appreciate your feedback and your help, as we learn and develop our new systems, we continue to improve our communication with our parents and community.
