Description: The article shows something about Grand Canyon University, contains several researches to help students find what makes the campus special and mentions something about student portal and school life.
A lot of researches say that kids are looking for more than an education that they want to find a purpose that they want, but they want to figure out what their life is going to do, what they’re going to do with their life, what their life is going to mean.
I think the primary benefit of coming to a place like Grand Canyon is that you’re going to be with other kids who are like-minded, you’re going to be with professors who you’re going to get to know things very well.
When you get into your major field of study, you’re going to have a relationship with those instructors that are going to allow them to help you. Thus when you leave here, you’ll leave here with a lot of directions, a lot of enthusiasm for doing something significant.
There is a very close-knit community that envelops this place, and I think it’s partly because of the Christian mission, a lot of kids come here for that, that helps bind people together, I think it’s because of the tightness of the mission, people know why they come here and it’s to find a purpose.
But it’s more than that, it’s about people finding their purpose and people develop an interest in each other, they build lasting friendships and relationships. One of the first experiences they have when they come here is that when they show up with all their stuff, our faculty are out there for two days, helping kids unload their stuff and get it into their room.
So they’re getting to meet people the minute, they step on the campus, they’re going to get a lot of attention and help, they’re going to get a lot of caring compassionate people who are going to make sure that they get off to a good start. The reason people come to Grand Canyon is that they do not want to just obser or sit in the stands at a football game, they want to participate.
A high percentage of our students come here because they are participating in one of our 18 NCAA Division two sports. We’re bringing back drama next year theater music, a lot of kids are going to come here. because they want to participate in. One of our theater productions they want to participate in, one of our praise bands or singing one of our choirs are playing one of our jazz bands.
We had a really big crowd at a women’s volleyball game and that enthusiasm was tremendous, because the students know each other. You’re not going to a game rooting for your team, but the people that are participating, that’s why you come to a place like rink and we are going to add significantly to this campus.
We are beginning to build a 55,000 square foot Recreation Center, which will be used for athletics and for practice, but also for our student by our regular student body. We are going to add 600 beds that will be ready next fall, so in the dormitory eventually. we’ll add new apartments as well.
We are going to build a 5,000-seat Events Center on our campus that will not be done next fall ,but two years from now, Events Center will be for the purpose of housing our men’s and women’s basketball programs, but also to be a place where we want to bring a lot of good music, especially Christian music to the valley.
I think what makes this place different is that we try hard to make sure that kids realize that they have the obligation to be part of the community to give back, to make sure that they’re serving the community as well as receiving the benefits of it. This is a very servant-leadership, oriented place, our goal is to develop leaders in our special brand of leadership, we refer to a servant leadership and so many of our students get involved in the community.
There’s a king and Kids Day that happens every Saturday morning when our students meet with parents of people from that, from the neighborhood, and they take care of their kids in the morning. so they can go off and do things are important for the family. We have days where we go out and we we clean up the neighborhood, we paint over graffiti and we clean up parks. There are lots of mission trips that our students take many times to South America, they’ve been to Africa.
It’s a very special place in terms of it being a place. They’re in a place where people care about them, where people know who they are, where people care about what they become. I think a lot of parents take comfort in the fact that in this very formative time, their kids are at a place where they can trust.
