Today I’m going to show you how to add a domain to office 365. First, you need to go into your admin center, then you can either click on domains or go through settings. You will have your starter 2 domain, this is required by all 4 3 6 5.
For the sake of setting up your account, it’s not required to be kept. In this case, you can see my custom domain of sunset rentals Coto UK. But I’ve got another one for this content. What you are going to do is to add a domain and enter your domain.
So this is in your domain name. In my case, it’s worlds org. Click next. You’ll have to verify your domain. If you aren’t with GoDaddy like me, it’ll ask you to set up with a text record. For the sake of showing you how to do it, I will do the text method. But you can do sign-in with GoDaddy. If you’re with GoDaddy, that will prove that you own it.
I’ll do the a text record for you, you will see something like this, so what you’re going to do is to go back to your domain register, you’re going to manage DNS. Your setup might look a little different. When you’re into your DNS management, you’re going to go ahead and add a new record. Select the type, in our case, it is a text record. You’re going to be requested to add a host, a text value and the time to life or TTL.
If it’s not specified as the symbol, you can click copy to clipboard on this little paper icon to save, typing it in individually. So what we’re going to do is to send this n. So we’ve got the value which is the MS equals. The host which is the act symbol TTL by default will be one hour or 3600 second. If it says 3600, that’s fine. If it says one hour, it’s fine. That’s the one that we’re looking for.
Click on save, then you should be able to see your text record . I can see now, so we’re going back to office 365 and click verify. Sometimes it goes quicker than other depending on your register. When you’ve done that, you can either let Office 365 add the DNS records for you, or you can manage your own records, so add them yourself. If you let office 365 do this, it will replace any existing record with office 365 version.
So this will enable you to use mail for office 365, Skype for business and anything that requires the DNS settings in 365, but note what I said, it will replace any current record. So if you have a website like this, add the DNS records yourself. If you’re not sure, check with someone before you proceed. In my case, I’m going to do at the DNS records myself.

So when you get to the DNS records, you will meet a screen like this, we have a long list of different records depending on what you want and how much you need to add, MX is referencing your mail, so the points to address would be in once – org dot mail protection dialogue.com, that is telling the DNS server that if anyone tries to send an email to that domain, it needs to go to the protection or outlook.com.
Under cname, you’ve got all to discover, that’s what the mail will work without the discover, but it will not work with Outlook. So if you want to use any version of Outlook, you need to add discover. The zip address and the link discover are only required if you intend to use Skype for business. As Enterprise registration, that’s not something that you’re going to need, but if you are in doubt, click the help button as I previously mentioned.
So if you want to use 365 for your mail services, you will need this MX record, this cname record and this text record. This is office 365 spam filtering, so it checks for your SPF record. That’s coming in and out as extra protection, it will work without it, but we strongly advise you to use the SPF records. I mean that you are already in a process of adding a text and the records, it’s not going to do you any damage.
As we covered previously to add the DMS records, you would go back to your domain manager, I’ll do the MX for some example purposes, you select type, I’m going to do MX. So we’ll do the host name, being the @ symbol, the point to address, being in worlds – org, the TTL – 3 600 and the priority is 0. It’s very straightforward.
I’m going to copy this, it’s the only one that I can’t remember. So I’m going to do host, the @ symbol. The @ symbol is referencing your domain, it’s not pointing to an IP address. It’s your domain, unless you’re doing anything custom or fancy, the @ symbol will be the case, the points to address is the priority of the zero.
When it comes to DNS records, priority starts from zero. Make sure that when it comes to MX cname, if it’s referencing your mail. Whoever your host is, in our case, make sure that the priority is zero to avoid any issue.
I’m not going to add all these records because you don’t need to sit through watching that. When you’ve done the records, you’d better verify here, it good for you. We got some errors before. If you don’t want the errors, now I tell you my reason of failing out, only one MX record can have a priority of zero, because it’s looking to the mail on my GoDaddy account.
But I’m not concerned, because I don’t need the mail. You will encounter this issue if you do. Remove the MX record which is existing in your domain host or set the priority to add a lower number than the office 365 one.
If you don’t want to deal with the SRV records and the other cname records for Skype for business, you can skip here. Remember that some features may be unavailable. When you’ve done that, your domain is appearing, this becomes available to use immediately.
If you want your domain to be used for sewing in purposes, sign in with your domain, but don’t host your mail. You don’t want anything like that, you don’t want to use the Microsoft.com. You have to do the verification of text records, jump to the end of this content and do skip. Then you will be able to go into your users or to your groups.
