I’m Dean. I’ll show you how to add a domain name to office 365, I think a domain name will allow you to use your own personal email address. If you do not have a domain name, please register one before proceeding.
The first thing you need to do is to log on office 365 by visiting portal Microsoft online.com. Enter your username password. Welcome to the portal, click on domain which is located on the left hand side under management.
I’m going to click on add a domain. In this instance, I’m going to use my own personal domain which is Dean Spence. Click Next, now the first step is to verify the domain, if you click on general instructions, this will instruct you how to add a text record to the domain name which will be used to verify the domain name against office365.
What you will see is the destination and our points to address. So the first thing that I’m going to do is to select that and copy. Now my domain is Tagadab. I go to the tagadab control panel. Here I will add a text record. Copy and paste. Make sure that there’s no space, then click Submit.
Now you’ll see that the text record has been added, when this step is complete, go back to add a domain, go down to the bottom of the screen and click verify, this process takes 15 minutes to 72 hours. Click verify to verify the domain name, it may fail at the first time.
If the text record hasn’t propagated across the internet and has not got to office 365, Click verify. Now this is verified, it’s asking me what services to exchange online link, click next and close. You can see my domain name, Dean Spencer duck Carter UK has been verified.
Now the second stage is to configure the DNS within the domain which will allow it to work within office 365. I’ll click on the domain at the top, you’ll see DNS settings. Click there. These are the settings that need to be added to the domain name.
You got an MX record which is mail exchange, the easiest way of doing this is to copy and paste, make sure there’s no space at the end, click submit. Go back to the domain property, the next is cname, the host name is autodiscover, so click here to our cname and hostname. Paste and summit to another text record, copy, add text record and paste.
For Microsoft Lync, we need a service record, this is a little complicated. Copy here, then we’ve get the option to add service record. The host content is weight, port and target. So the weight is 100, the port is 5061. Click Submit, now you see the service has been added.
So you’ve got a host name and points to address. Copy this, add cname and paste, go to the final cname and the hostname, copy, paste, go to the target and our destination, copy, paste, click and submit. That is the process, you will see the domain name, text records, MX records, cnames and service records.
If this process is unavailable to you, you may ask your web development company, your IT support company or your ISP for help. Now click on domain properties and return to domain list, you will see that the domain name is verified and ready to use.
What you can do is to click on users and select an email address. This one is used as the old email address which is assigned by Microsoft. Click on edit details and select the domain name. You can see that the domain name is available.
