Description: This is an overview about the C 178 and the Security+ Exam, how to prepare and what to be aware of when preparing the exam.
Today I’m going to talk about C 178 which is networking security applications.
This is the security+ exam I took in the middle of July 2016, it was the 401 version of the test. I had a total of 72 questions, 67 were multiple-choice, that exam lasted for 90 minutes, I spent 60 minutes in the multiple-choice section. That exam was much more difficult than the A+ and network+, but it is not unobtainable, if you study hard enough, it was more troubleshooting and less regurgitating port numbers, but I passed the exam which was a relief.
I use the Darryl Gibson’s get certified which was provided to me by my mentor, I asked him if he had any extra resources and he sent me the PDF version of the book which allowed me to read it at work on my breaks and lunch.
I also used ucertify for the labs, but I don’t always like certified labs because some of them are broken and some of them have terrible videos. But you can provide feedback which is the only way to let the school improve, and that’s the only benefit, so I ended up using the prep engine.
I believe there were 360 questions for the security+ or for C 178 and you have to answer each one three times which means you have to answer about a thousand questions but they help you remember stuff, it took me about three weeks before I had the exam.
I didn’t take any practice exam, but if you want, you can take CompTIA which figures that its best is not what real world or the actual answer they’re looking for, so be prepared for that you’ll find that on the A+ and the Network+.
