Pride of Liberty helps me bring my best self to work, because it’s given me the opportunity to say that this is my husband, this is my family, this is who we are, ERGs have the potential to impact our business by providing insights that help us connect with market better and serve our diverse customer base.
So one of the other things that Liberty has done is to create an LGBT specific sales flyer, so when our receptions meet with LGBT couples, they can highlight the different ways that our policy meets their specific needs and the flyer has met with some great success and significantly increased the number of quotes that we have received.
Reflecting the diversity of the communities in which we work and serve is a core value of Liberty, our ERGs provide support through sponsorships and hosting events, we have an event with international YMCA students who will be entering college, we help them with their networking, resume reviewing and interviewing skills.
We are able to connect with the community, and the students are able to come to see a different perspective of the corporate world, through their support of recruiting efforts and focuses on professional development, ERGs impact our talent pipeline and help members gain new skills, so I think one of the great selling points is that for candidates, it is about the company culture and the DNI initiative.
So bringing forth the ERGs tells them that we have these close-knit community, they can be a part of it as early as their first day, joining Liberty Mutual has been a good selling point as they transfer from the campus life to the corporate America, It was funny the other day when we had the meeting.
I sat next to another analytics person and he was a director on the corporate side, so I was able to learn a lot of stuff that I didn’t know about different tools that he used and that I wasn’t using, I mea that you will bring that back to my group and not only help my team but also help myself and my career goals, so the experience alone has made me think that Mia probably was going to be worth a lot.
As ERGs are open to everyone, we encourage our employees to join groups outside of their background or affinity as allies, so I’m an ally of Liberty but I’m also an ally of all of the Archies, and that’s one of the great things about the ERGs, they’re meant for everyone.
Allies have a unique role to play in that, to be a truly diverse organization, we need everyone focused on it, we need everyone committed to it, and I think when we do that, we get the best possible business outcomes as a key component of our DNI strategy .
The energies allow us to create a stronger organization with a fully engaged and innovative workforce where everyone feels valued for their unique talents, skills and abilities, we look forward to expanding our ERG family and continuing to create an inclusive environment that leverages the power of our collective differences.
