A couple years ago,I did a tutorial about office 365,there were over a hundred and twenty thousand people who watched it. Two years is a long time for any technology so I figured it’s time to update that and talk about what has changed and why so many people are still using office 365.
Over sixty percent of Fortune 500 companies are currently using office 365,that’s huge,we’re a little bit further behind in Canada,we are doing our businesses with technology. About twenty percent of Canadian small and medium-sized businesses are currently using office 365,let’s talk about what office 365 is.
Office 365 is Microsoft’s cloud productivity suite,it has a bunch of applications,it has a bunch of services put into one product. The reason a lot of people have trouble understanding what office 365 is that there are so many parts of it,let me give you the quick rundown. First part is hosted email,a lot of people are using exchange servers on-site in their office.
Office 365 is a hosted exchange service to get your email out of your office and send it into the cloud, there are online versions of Microsoft Office as part of the office 365,it also has the desktop and tablet versions of Microsoft Office that we usually buy. When we buy a new computer,it includes SharePoint,it is an intranet file management project tool.
Skype for business is an online meeting messaging and video conferencing software, onedrive is Microsoft’s version of Dropbox,it is similar to Dropbox or box.net. There are many applications such as OneNote,it integrates with office 365,there are a bunch of great reasons why people move to office 365.
One of the biggest reasons is that Microsoft has built the cloud platform and suite of services and applications around boosting productivity for our teams and our colleagues to get more with less time.
I am going to show you the next reason why a lot of people move to office 365. We all want to simplify our IT,we want to have less risk. You can put some applications in the cloud,it simplifies your overall IT infrastructure from a small and medium-sized business level,it allows you to reduce the risk of your business.
We all work remotely now,we have teams of people that are on the road or working from home,to simplify that remote access is huge. Whether you’re using a tablet,a computer or a mobile device, you can have the same experience across all those different devices no matter what you’re using,an office 365 is built around that premise.
Everybody wants to get rid of servers, servers are costly, they take up power, they take up space,if we could get rid of servers,it would be wonderful. Office 365 can get rid of a lot of the servers that you’re using,as a result it lowers the costs,it lowers the cost of your IT and your IT management.
Using the same version of Microsoft Office is important,it would be a nice improvement for a lot of small and medium-sized businesses,a lot of us have two or three different versions of Microsoft Office running throughout the office.
Last but not least,we can be ready for future. One of the things I love about office 365 is that our clients will come to us and ask us questions. We have opened up a new office,we need to give them the tools to succeed, with office 365,it creates an account.
They have a virtual file server that have an email account, they have ways to have online meetings, join meetings. That can be deployed in a matter of minutes. We do office 365 migrations all the time,we’ve got a simplified process that makes sure that our clients don’t lose productivity migrating to a Productivity suite of applications.
It’s extremely important,if you’re interested in office 365,you can give us a call. We’ll come in and do an office 365 readiness audit,we’ll give you a plan for how to migrate successfully to office 365 without having a lot of issues.
