Because of our growth here at Nationstar,we felt we needed to make a decision on new technologies and new solutions in order to continue to grow our user base around the Citrix environment.
We looked at our existing solution,we looked at other hardware based technologies and also looked at Atlantis’s Software Defined solution. Being a software based solution,it kept my costs low and it also did not add additional burden to my storage management team.
My name is Calvin,I am AVP of application of virtualization. Currently we can take hours in application environment by using Atlantis software to support up to 8,000 sessions. We can use application not only on a desktop but also on an application for user.
One of our main applications that we virtualized today is encompass and remedy. Remedy is a servicing application where they use to service loans,encompass is origination application where they user to originate loans.
We are now running into a challenge of scalability,we have reached 70 percent capacity on our v-max in terms of IOPS,in order for us to add an additional thousand user,we have to make a significant purchase and this gives us an opportunity to look at other technologies to deal with some of the growth of growing pains that we have.
We have averaged about three to five blue screen per day,the reason behind that is that there was a limitation on the sizing of it,the user may lose connectivity to their session. Each server has about 25 users,you’re looking at about 100 user every day and five days a week,that’s 500 user a week who may lost their citrix session,they have to restart it and log back in. That’s not including the time they have to go back in and call the helpdesk,it takes some time to even troubleshoot the issue.
Since we deployed Atlantis,we haven’t had an issue reported regarding blue screen due to a write cache limitation. The reason why Atlantis was able to resolve it is that it has the dedupe and compression ability to give us the more density out of right. We use Atlantis and memory technology to deliver a XenApp session.
With this technology,we’re able to see a linear growth of storage usage rather than have to plan for growth for additional thousand users. For every single blade that we added into an environment,we know they are expecting the results for every blade. When it comes time to add additional user,it’s not going to impact. By deploying Atlantis software,we are able to reduce our utilization by 70% on the P max.
By deploying Atlantis,we are able to not only have a cost avoidance of approximately a million dollars plus but we’re also able to reuse existing resources on the traditional storage solution. It adds an additional value of two to three hundred thousand dollars.
Because of the good success we’ve had,we are further looking at opportunities with the Atlantis software and some of our virtualization environments. Software-defined solutions are going to be a key to our ability to react and respond to the business needs,they are also being able to keep our costs in check and our resources in line.
