PNC Bank is very excited about giving back to the community,it’s a part of who we are and what we try to do in all the markets that we’re in. We’re relatively new to Broward County,we’ve only been there for three years,but in that time we’ve given more than a million dollars to nonprofits in Broward County,it’s a very important part of who we are as a company.
2-1-1 has done a fabulous job of solving problems for people in Broward County,those are the nonprofit organizations that we’d like to get involved in. At PNC Bank,we are very excited that 2-1-1 agreed in this year’s nonprofit Academy Awards,we’re big believers in funding the arts and children,those are two of our most important causes.
We’ve involved with a number of arts organizations in Broward County,one that we had a great experience with was young and art. I don’t know if you know that museum,it has been a fabulous thing because it works on two of the most important things that we believe in which are our children and arts.
Young and arts combines that into in one building,they have done a fabulous job,we’re thrilled to be a partner of them. We’re very thrilled to partner with 2-1-1 Broward. Last year,two-one-one took in over a hundred nine thousand calls for people in distress that needed to be directed to different organizations in Broward County,they have done it so well.
We are looking forward to being part of the January 10th announcement of the Award candidates and awards ceremony on February 22nd,we hope everyone can be there and enjoy this experience. PNC is headquartered in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania,we came to Florida at the beginning of 2009 after we bought National City Bank,we had about a hundred and ten branches in the state of Florida.
One of the epicenter of growth for us in the state of Florida is Broward County. We started it last year with six branches,by the end of next year we’ll have 28 branches in Broward County. One of the exciting things for us about Broward County is that we will open it after the first year,this is our first net zero energy branch in the PNC system,it will potentially give energy back to the grid.
There’s nothing like it,it is the most lead energy efficient building that you’ll see in Broward County. We’re very excited about that. One of the things that we believe in as a company is giving back to the nonprofits,we want to be one part of the communities that we’re in,we’ve been doing it for over 150 years.
One of the most important philanthropic efforts that we have as a company is a program called grow up great. It started about eight years ago. It is a hundred million dollar commitment by the bank to preschool age education,we are they to get kids ready to go to school.
When they’re ready to go to school,they can be successful. If they aren’t ready,they never catch up.We’ve announced another 250 million dollars across our footprint over the next 10 years to that,it’s 350 million dollar commitment over 20 years to preschool age education. We want to be the biggest player in Broward County,that’s our goal over the next few years. We came into the community about three years ago and we’re growing rapidly.
One of the exciting things about this Academy Awards is that over 24 nonprofits will be recognized with this,that’s a great statement for what two-on-one is doing in the community. PNC is committed to growing in South Florida,we’ve had a lot of success,we’ve grown our business at 50 percent a year,we want to keep doing it.
We view South East Florida as the biggest growth opportunity for us in anywhere on our footprint. I’m sure South Florida is helping us reach our goals. One of the things we’re very excited about is one person who works for us,she came from 2-1-1 and now she is the chair of this event. She is coming from a nonprofit organization and still staying involved with it,we’re very proud of her.
