I’ve been an IT consultant for 25 years. I’m a Microsoft Office 365 partner. It is my job duty to learn about office 365, which is one of the most important things to know.
Above all, there are a lot of different versions of office 365, including some versions for home users, versions for small or big business, and other versions for government and academic as well.
Therefore, some of the features we’re going to show you in this course may not apply to your version of office 365. But we’re going to cover the most commonly used features.
There are a lot of different versions, but what exactly is Office 365 capable of. Do you pay a water bill every month? Most of us pay a water bill every month.
I have a friend in a rural part of Africa. When she pays the water company, they’ll send a big truck of water out to her house and fill up a big tank outside her building.
I think we would all agree that’s a less efficient way. However, that’s how we’ve always bought software in the past.
If we need a new version or a new license for Microsoft Office, for example, I go down to the computer store and buy a CD right and bring it back to use it until it’s time for a new version or a new license or an extra computer.
With Office 365, you’re going to pay a monthly fee to Microsoft for a certain set of services like you do with your water bill or your electrical bill.
Office 365 is great in the sense that it gives you access to some services that used to be very expensive to maintain on your own.
That is why some of these services are only available to large corporations. Who would spend thousands of dollars a year maintaining them? Then, we’re going to take a look at all the services that are provided by Office 365.
For starters, most Microsoft Office 365 plans include access to exchange Microsoft Exchange, which is a service that offers business class email as well as calendars and contacts. It allows you to sync your email calendar and contact information between multiple devices. It also provides additional security and administration functions. It works well with Microsoft Outlook.
Microsoft Office is the world’s most popular productivity suite including applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint outlook and Office 365. These applications can be downloaded to your PC, Mac, iPad or other tablet or your smart phone. They can be accessed online too.
SharePoint has sometimes been called the Swiss Army knife of business productivity. It’s a platform that allows for document-sharing content, management company, intranets, team collaboration, internal social networks, public-facing websites and research and business intelligence functions. Microsoft OneDrive for business is based on SharePoint technology. It’s an easy way for users to save share and collaborate on documents securely in the cloud.
Microsoft Skype is a communications tool for business, which allows you to use chat and instant messaging functions.
It gives you a presence indicator as well as allowing you to place audio calls video calls and host video conferences with your co-workers, and even outside your organization depending on your package. Your Office 365 bundle might also include Microsoft Skype OneDrive.
I understand there are a lot of technologies that can be used on multiple devices. But what do people actually use it for? There are a lot of different purposes you can use it for.
11 different purposes of Office 365 will be involved in the course. Starting with using it for business class email, we’re going to talk about using it for your calendar, contacts, to save and share documents, to create and edit documents online, to collaborate with your co-workers or your clients or outside people using both SharePoint and Microsoft OneDrive for business.
We’re also going to look at how to use Skype for business to chat, call and video conference with other people. There are even some newest features of Office 365 including Microsoft’s way Microsoft Delve and Power Bi.
Then, we’re going to focus on how to customize your Office 365 experience with apps and templates. We’re going to view it at the office 365 administration side.
Most of the office 365 administration will be outside the scope of this course. Finally, we’re going to look at where you can get help with any of your Microsoft Office 365 questions both from Microsoft themselves and from the office 365 community.
