Description: The article is about sdi login. With an aim to improve the employability of Kerala’s students and youth population, Government of Kerala has initiated an ambitious mission on skill development with two distinct approaches.
Our state though small compared to the rest of India always had a rich human resource pool to boast off thanks to early focus on education. Decades back, many enterprising Carol left our shows to the Middle East and other countries to build a new life for themselves. Carol’s socio-economic development is due to the crows of rupees flowing into our coffers from our non-resident.
Though education had given the state a competitive edge, the downside is that educated youth are today shy to take up semi-skilled on manual labor. Educated youth show a marked preference for blue collar or white collar jobs. As a result, in several sectors of the economy, there is a lack of sufficient labor force so that we are increasingly dependent on migrant labor from other states.
The problem of unemployment continues to be a burning social issue. The educational system of the state in the past had conferred a distinct competitive edge on our youth to attract industry and business. However, we are facing an acute shortage of trained manpower in several growing sectors of the economy today.
The solution lies in building an entrepreneurial culture along with effective training and multi-skilling of our youth. Time has come to redesign our strategies if the state is going to regain its edge as a producer and net exporter of quality manpower.
The state skill development project SSDP has been conceived for developing strategies to address this problem effectively. The SSDP is going to be implemented jointly by the general education, the higher education, the labor and local self-government departments with the active involvement of many other departments. It aims to tackle the unemployment problem by combining a preventive and a curative approach.
On the preventive side, the additional skill acquisition program will be conducted jointly by the general and higher education departments targeting the plus two and undergraduate students in our schools and colleges. The courses will be designed with the active participation of the industry and with the facilitation and support of the university’s.
Skill enhancement involves strong industry inputs and sessions conducted primarily with the resource persons from the industry. The highlight of the course will be the strong practical orientation, fifty-five percent of the course work will focus on the practical aspects.
To achieve this end, various employment sectors have been identified to be included in the curriculum of this initiative. The first phase includes hospitality, organized retail, healthcare, IT and ITES, banking and finance.
The ASAP is designed around three continuous aspects namely industry feedback, academic instruction and course design. A smooth bi-directional feedback loop links the three components, it will keep the syllabi live and relevant to the industry.
This project is a beginning. We are taking the first step towards building a talent pool of our youth. The process never ends, we aim to explore new avenues and expand to more sectors. We believe that a skilled workforce alone can provide long-term impetus to the growth of our state, let’s join hands to make this dream come true.
