Description: The article is about sharepoint login. SharePoint is included in most Office 365 subscriptions. In this article, the author shows how to get started in Sharepoint Office 365. You can follow the steps to learn how to use Sharepoint.
In this demonstration, I’ll show you how to get started with SharePoint. SharePoint is an important part of your office 365 environment, you have a button for getting to SharePoint, that will take you to the SharePoint home page. You can see the sites that I’m following. I’m actively chosen to follow this team site, you can see the featured link, that’s the only site I have.
This site is a very important one, it’s the first one that has been created by default when you sign up for a new office 365 tenant, let’s go in and look at that one specifically. I’ve added some conversation and I’ve added some sample documents. I’m going to give you a quick walk around of this environment.
First of all, you have the regular navigation parts, that are part of office 365. You also have the ribbon which is not part of the office 365. You can see the Browse and the page tabs, that’s the default one. If you go into a page, you have the ribbon interface which lets you do many interesting things, that’s a new part, that’s not a part of the rest of office 365.
You have the navigation, this usually shows what site you’re currently in. This shows navigation between sites in this site collection. Site collection is an important word in SharePoint, you need to be familiar with that, let me get to the list of site collections that you have, let’s leave this tab open. We can go to the admin UI and find the SharePoint admin Center, it keeps opening new tabs. I’ll close them down.
There are my site collections, there are a few ones that created by default. You don’t need to deal with the portals hub and the compliant Policy Center, I’ve never found any use for those, but that could be my ignorance, but you can ignore those for now at least. This is the one that we’ve been talking about, this is the team site, it is a very important thing to note about.
It has sharing enabled by default so I selected that one. I will click on sharing, you’ll notice that the default settings are generous, it allows sharing with all external users and by using anonymous access links, this is the default setting, it’s not secure by default, it’s open by default, that’s very important to know.
Another thing to note is the permissions on this site. I can go into site settings and look at the permissions, everyone except external users are members of the site. A member in SharePoint Online can do a lot of things, he can create new views, he can create new lists, there are a lot of stuff, that’s an important thing, everyone in the organization has permissions to go into and modify this default theme site.
You can change that, but that’s the default. Another thing about this site is that it doesn’t have scripting enabled. In the web designer galleries, there are not many things, there are more things in there. In the side actions, you’re not able to save this site as a template because the scripting is not enabled on that site.
If you want to change that, you can do that, let’s go back and change that in settings. I’m back in the SharePoint admin center, you can allow users to run custom script on self-service created sites, this is an important one, it takes about 24 hours to take effect, but that will allow you to do more on the default side.
I’m going to make that setting. Other important things on this default site is the share button. This site is already shared with a lot of people, but if you want to share it with somebody external, that works too. You can type in their email address and they will be able to sign in with a Microsoft account.
The follow button is also very important, you’re following this little button, it might be useful for you if you don’t want to see so much navigation stuff all around. You can go in and focus on content so you will only get the content on the page that you’re on. I usually remove this and get started with your site, it gives you a little bit more space. That shows you how to get started with SharePoint and some of the points that you need to know.
