Description: In the article which centers on ssi login, the author talks about the importance of registering for your social security account. Completing this initial registration of your account will allow you to easily check your account contributions and potential benefits as well as verify that the information reported is accurate.
This is Brandon with retirement Success Academy.com, today we’re going to be talking about the importance of registering for your social security account on the Social Security website, I’m going to go into detailed explanation about how and where to go to register, what things you need to be aware of and look out for and how to use the information that you get.
It’s important to register for your social security account mainly to track where you are currently with your Social Security qualifications throughout your life, you work, your add up and build up, certain qualifying quarters, you need to make sure and verify that those are correct.
It’s also going to give you a breakdown of what you can expect to take in Social Security retirement benefits and how to best maximize those throughout your retirement, to register for your account on the Social Security website the first thing you’re going to want to do is to go to their website at ssa.gov.
Once you’re on the website, it’s going to bring you to this home page, there are a lot of different options for you most of which you don’t have to register to get, I would recommend spending some time going through this website, there are a lot of great calculators and online services that will allow you to check out what they have to offer and what your present benefits will be.
If you have specific questions, you can come down here and click on any one of these buttons or options to get answers to those questions, there’s a frequently asked questions section, there’s a disability facts section as well as other sections that you can see here.
One of the great things about this is that there is a retirement estimator that you can click on, this will allow you to calculate your benefits based on your social security contributions throughout your life, what this does is that it goes through this and it can ask you a series of questions.
To get some information about you so that it can estimate your benefits, click on here, even though you’re not registering for your account, it’s giving issues now, but it will ask you some information about who you are and how to make those benefits.
In terms of registering for your specific account, you’re going to click on this sign-in button, register here to verify a couple of different things which I’ll show you, when you come to the login pages, it can ask you for one of two things, if you’re a new user, you need to read through this and create a new account.
If you’re an existing user, you have the option to log into your account, there is one word of warning, if you are a new user and you go to creating account, they’re going to ask you a series of questions some of which may apply to you but all of which you must answer.
Let me explain what I mean by that, when you read through this and you agree to the terms of services, click the next button, it’s going to ask you to verify your identity, when you go through and verify your identity, it’s going to ask you to put in some general information about yourself on this first page.
Once you hit the next button, it’s going to take you to this secure your identity screen, it’s going to ask you a series of questions about you, about yourself, about your history information all of which the Social Security Administration has.
It’s going to ask you to choose the best option, it’s a multiple choice option of four to five questions, it’s going to ask you things like an address you’ve lived at in the previous ten years or if you have a student loan, who your student loan provider is, some obscure questions from your past.
Maybe you don’t have a student loan but you did at one point, it’s going to ask you potentially a question about that, in each of these questions there is going to be an option that says none of the above, when you are answering these questions, be aware that some or all of the questions can be answered with none of the above.
When I filled out for my account, I was asked four of the five questions, the answer was none of the above, they’re asking to verify who you are, make sure that you say who you are so that you’re not potentially getting into any illegal situations with identity theft.
Let’s get back to the login screen, once you fill that out, it’s going to allow you to login, one other thing I will note is if you happen to get tripped up on some of those questions that they ask you, it rejects your registration, it will lock you out of the system for 24 hours at which point you’ll be able to go in and register.
If you get locked out today, check back again in 24 hours and you should be able to register, if you happen to get locked out a second time, at that point you will need to talk to your local Social Security Administration Building, you can find their contact information on this website.
They’ll be able to talk to you and help you get that account unlocked and verified, it is a little bit of a headache for some people, I personally would rather them have more more security than less security to protect our identities, once you fill out your information, you’re going to log into your account.
You’re going to be asked to verify some terms of services, once you do that, it’s going to take you to your main page, on this main page there’s a lot of great information under the my home tab, first of all it allows you to take a look at what you’re going to get at your full retirement age, my particular full retirement age is 67.
My last reported earnings are listed here, you can verify and click on this view earnings record, it will take you to the screen where you can view all of your earnings throughout your life to verify that they’re all there, if you need to get a benefit verification letter, this link is where you would do that.
This is to allow you to verify that you are not receiving Social Security benefits and prove it through an official letter, estimated benefits screen will take you through what your benefits will be, this is an estimate when you reach your retirement age.
If you choose to delay to take payments later or if you choose to take retirement benefits early, it will show you those differences as well, you can apply for and understand the benefits that are available in other situations, if you become disabled, if you decease, if you are qualifying for Medicare, you can get information about your specific situation there.
The next section is the earnings record that will show you the history of your working career and benefits that you’ve earned throughout your life, it’s important to get on there, verify that, make sure that everything is accurate and up to date.
These last two tabs are general information and not related to you specifically but allow you to get some your questions answered, I would recommend reading through some of these sections if you have additional questions, thank you for reading.
I hope that it was helpful for you, I would recommend that you go now to Social Security website and register for your account, we are also releasing a podcast information around that podcast and how you can subscribe is available at our website at retirement Success Academy.com, don’t forget to comment, let us know how we can help.
