Description: This passage is mainly about unemployment login. In this passage, the writer tells us how to cope with being unemployment and the writer shows us seven ways to do that.
This is Oliver with Free Your Zen, in today’s article, I’m talking about unemployment, you know that earlier this year, I came back from traveling Australia and I was unemployed for a couple of months, I thought with all my spirituality and all that stuff, I thought I’d be very safe with it, I thought it wouldn’t affect me at all.
It would be no emotional pain, no difficulty and no lack of meaning because all of it was one baby, I was sorely mistaken and it had shown developed, I’ve got five or six or seven ways that you can cope with being unemployed until you have employment, and I’m going to reel off those, I’m not missing down, I’m going to reel off those, now let’s begin.
So being unemployed is challenging for a few reasons, lack of income is one of them, lack of income means lack of freedom, you can’t do the things that you want to do in the society, unfortunately, we’ve got a play to that tune too, you don’t have a reason to get up in the morning that can be quite jarring.
Especially if you’ve had a job in the past for long periods of time, you get enough to have nothing to get to or do, which can be a quite disrupting routine, and there is intense cultural conditioning which says that if you don’t have a job, you’re not worth as much, and by saying that it’s cultural conditioning which literally it doesn’t negate the effects, because that is deeply ingrained so that is a reason as well.
So how do we cope with it? Until it subsides, until we find employment and until we have income and a reason to get up in the morning and so on, how do we do that? First I’ve got five or six different ways, the first one is to exercise, when you’re exercising, what you’re doing is that you’re essentially getting yourself on a positive path where you keep making improvements and you have a goal to get to.
So what can be the issue in your own employment? Everything is essentially a kind of chaos and you’re not directed towards any particular area, if you set up through exercise, you want to get that goal that can make you feel more productive, as you’re getting there you set a goal and break it down into micro processors and stepping stones.
You’re doing something healthy, when you’re exercising, you release all those feel-good hormones and all that stuff, exercise is massively important for three or four times a week, so that has helped me, to be honest, that saves nothing.
The second one is to meditate, now with all this time that you have on your hands, it is time to pick up that meditation practice for 5-10 minutes a day, meditation can help you disentangle your identification with the mind and with the thoughts that are telling you that you should be doing this and you should be doing that.
It will tell you that you’re not worth this and you’re not worth that, whatever the case may be, deciding that in vacation with the mind in the particularly difficult period can alleviate the effects and you feel bit better.
The third one is to write your journal in a diary and get to know yourself, you’ve got the time to get to know yourself, get to know what thoughts are going off, get to know how you feel in relation to the past, get to know what your dreams are for the future and get to know who this truly is, now you’re not taking an 8 to 10 hours of your day working for someone else.
Now it is your time to work for yourself and this is the stuff that will have a greater effect further on down the line, using this time as an opportunity to dig deeper and find out who you’ve been is massively beneficial.
The forth one is to limit your job searches and your applications to what you can handle, so one issue that I run into is that I have spent a great deal of my time of my day scrolling through job search sites, as I will scroll through Facebook nowadays unfortunately and you can see all these different jobs, they are the ones that I don’t want to do.
It ends up being quite destructive, and I spend about three or four hours and applications get few back unfortunately and it bits my confidence, so if you determine how long you can comfortably set there, spend every single day applying for jobs and looking for jobs without completely ruining your sanity and your sense of self worse.
That can be one hour, that can be two hours, stick to it, pick a time during the day when you’re going to do that, that will be your job for the day searching for jobs, the rest of it that you should do has been mentioned in this list.
The fifth one is to spend time with friends, reconnect with old friends that you’ve not met for a while, reconnecting makes those connections live in them up, when you’re talking to other people, it is not only nice to vent, it also makes you realize that you’re a part of something greater when you’re spending time with people, it’s very nice.
To reconnect with members of your tribe in your social circle, go out and do things hobbies and make friends in that way, that’s the fifth tip, socialize and make friends and reconnect with people, the sixth one is to read, so have you ever had a topic or a passion or an area that you’d like to read up on something.
You’d like to read some that you have had curiosity in the past, read about it, I spend this time of a couple of months reading books that I want to read for a while, but I never have a chance to do that and this has fed my mind, this keeps me intellectually stimulated, it is what happens during this period of inertia.
We go through periods of inertia and activity in our lives in a cyclical fashion, and if you pay attention, you’ll notice this, and through this period of inertia what can happen is that your mind can get stuck on a tape loop of habitual thought and usually habitual thoughts are quite negative in nature.
Because the minds are trying to perceive threats and may help you survive, so it will naturally perceive negativity where they may not keep you alive, so what you need to do is to keep yourself intellectually stimulated in different areas that aren’t negative, so pick some passions, pick some things that you might want to learn about and have a bit of a read upon them.
Your mind will thank you for it and lastly this is the most important one, the seventh one is to know that you are not the job, you do cultural conditioning and programming, as I have said at the start, it is strong, it’s heavy, but it’s a conditioning of the mind, you are not the mind, you are aware of the mind.
So for that reason what you are is not your job role at any given time, if you take your job role and assume who you are, you are mistaking yourself for something, you are taking something vast and infinite which is exactly what you are, and you are collapsing it into a finite substance, a finite mind creation, an idea, a concept that a job is in relation to the identity.
Realize fully, deeply and truly the deepest core of your being, you are greater than that, you are not your job, you are not the work that you do, and when you realize this, you realize that your self-worth is not solely a result of the job that you do in this society.
