Description: The following article mainly has the topic about wattpad login, which teaches you how to get a million reads on Wattpad. Wattpad uses an algorithm to rank books. If you don’t know how it works, this may be the biggest reason why your book isn’t popular.
My name is Michael Limjoco, I am an author on Wattpad, I have been on Wattpad since March 2013, during that time I have posted two books, my first book Kuro hit number one in both science fiction and fantasy last year, it was one of the point zero one percent most read books.
It’s got about a 1.1 million reads, it did well, it landed a finalist in the Awards and was a featured story, for those of you who don’t know what a featured story is, it’s essentially be placed on the front page on Wattpad, you get a little bit of priority when you do that.
A lot of people ask me for the best way to get a million reads and how to get noticed because it seems to be very difficult for some people to get notice on Wattpad, I can tell you that there is in fact a formula, I’ve written a book about it.
I call it cracking the Wattpad code, insider secrets the pros don’t want you to know, in it I talk about tips and strategies on how you can get noticed, you can essentially understand how Wattpad is structured and how it works, it is heartbreaking.
You get a lot of questions, let me try to see if I can prove my point, a lot of people on the clubs will ask questions like why is Wattpad such a terrible website? Why can’t I get any traction on my stories? Let me see if I can pull something up here.
I’m not too sure whether I can, but here’s a good example of it, the title says Wattpad is a bit too preteen for me, are there any other sites like this with older demographics? Certainly when you get a user asking that type of question, they’re not getting success.
Here’s something to understand, this is the traffic for Wattpad.com according to online demographic website quantcast, Quantcast is a very popular website for profiling how well a circle website does both in the US essentially internationally.
According to Quantcast.com Wattpad has 401.3 million US subscribers now, that’s monthly about a hundred and forty two and a half million globally, that’s a staggering number, if you try to compare that, they’re number 29 in US traffic.
If you pull that up, you’re going to see that Wattpad is essentially grown up, it has more traffic than mlb.com, than the New York Times, than today.com, it is a dramatically different website from the Wattpad, Wattpad has made such a dramatic improvement in US traffic.
In fact if you combine the traffic for the New York Times and cnn.com, the traffic of Wattpad would still be a little bit higher than both of those, I’d have to check my numbers, I checked that, but it’s significant, the next closest one to Wattpad would probably be Amazon’s Goodreads which has sixteen point two million.
The rest of them are not even worthy of being mentioned, you talk about Figment or miss literati, if you tried to add up the traffic for Goodreads, miss literati, Figment and all of those other websites, none of them would even come close to scratching the surface of 402 million unique visitors.
if you’re thinking that there’s an alternative, there isn’t an alternative, if you are looking to build an audience, this is the website you want to be focusing on especially if you’re trying to build an audience for self-publishing, I believe that Wattpad is a terrific audience builder.
I have to figure out how to properly monetize it, but that’s the point of the blog, my hope is that I can figure out a way to do that and teach people how to do it, if you’re looking to understand how to do well on Wattpad, let’s click on the hot list.
For those of you who don’t know what the hot list is, it’s essentially a list of the top stories in every genre on Wattpad, you’ve got science fiction, you’ve got fantasy, you’ve got paranormal humor, romance, mystery and thriller, the biggest genres that I’m aware of on Wattpad today essentially are science fiction, fantasy and romance.
Literature’s huge, so is adventure and fan fiction, the rest of them have a smattering, you can corner the market especially if you are a good writer in historical fiction, because there is a very small amount of readers there, once you establish yourself as a good writer, there is the potential to capture that market.
I talked a lot about the long tail which is essentially going after the small wins which we’ll talk about shortly or a later session, historical fiction is one of those, horror is another mystery thriller paranormal, those are websites where you can dramatically establish yourself very quickly if you know what you’re doing as opposed to science fiction and fantasy or romance.
These are very difficult because of the size of the audience, it’s very difficult to stand out there, but it is still entirely possible to do that with a little help, if you would like to rank well on the hot list, the one thing you must understand is Wattpad’s presentation engine.
Essentially it is technology that Wattpad called the presentation algorithm, the center of that is this little area here where it says stories you might enjoy, if you have a story and you’ve put it out there, essentially what Wattpad does is that it places it in the small area here.
It’s different on a mobile device than it is on a computer, but essentially it presents it to a reader in this way, it shows a list of four, I think on mobile there it might be two or three of these, I’m not exactly sure, but if you click on one of these, what you’re doing is telling Wattpad that you voted for this as a reader.
The more people click on your story under stories, you might enjoy the more Wattpad may present your story more and make it more popular, it’s an accident that I clicked on Meta, I happen to know that this particular author Tom Reynolds is a particularly popular author on Wattpad.
In fact if you look at Meta, it is currently the number two ranked fantasy book currently on the hotness for Wattpad, it’s interesting, Wattpad doesn’t count total number of reads in its algorithm, it factors into a number of factors such as the number of reads you get in a particular day.
It factors the number of votes you get in a particular day and it factors the number of comments you get in a particular day, more importantly it also will factor how often you update your story, if you haven’t updated your story in about a week or so, you start getting dinged for that.
If you have a completed story and you haven’t updated that in a long time, it is a lot harder for you to rank than somebody who is actively updating their story, case in point today is Sunday May 25th, you can see that Tom Reynolds has updated the story.
A lot of people understand the power of making updates, if you’re updating at least once a week, you’re good, the best update schedule I have found is every five days, so I will show you my current book death angel, I am ranking number 12 in paranormal and I’m ranking number 14 in mystery thriller.
What I do is that I update every five days, if you update every five days on Wattpad, you are going to get a guaranteed spot almost always on stories you might enjoy, if you’ve recently updated within the first four days, you get priority on here.
The only other stories that get priority on stories you might enjoy are featured stories, those are stories that are presented on the front page of Wattpad, other than that the only way to guarantee a spot over here or to get priority over here is to update.
If you’re updating every five days, that means that for the entire week you get priority on this, which means everybody’s going to be clicking on your story, provided you’re doing a good job with the story, you are going to get priority.
Priority essentially guarantees that more people are going to be clicking on your book, when more people click on your book, it essentially triggers this chain reaction where the more you click, the more Wattpad realizes your story’s popular, the more popular story becomes, the higher it rises up in the ranking system.
On the ranking system on Wattpad you get assigned a thousand slots, if your stories are within the top one thousand stories in a particular genre, your story will get assigned direct, what you need to do is to get on the first page of the hot list.
There’s my story Death Angel that’s on the first page of the hot list, last week it was as high as number two, I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that with any consistency this week in the next, but I will certainly try, the trick to doing this is to get as high as the first five.
If you get within the top five stories on Wattpad, what happens is that your rank falls a lot slower than another story of similar nature, what that guarantees is if you land one of the first five slots, if your story happens to be within the top five, you can almost guarantee as long as you’re updating your stories, you can almost guarantee a spot on the first page.
That’s what you need to do, you need to trigger the chain reaction, you need to make sure that you’re always on the first page of the hot list in your particular genre, then you’re not getting kicked to the second page or the third page, because nobody’s seeing that.
When you’re here on the first page of the hot list, it’s essentially a self-fulfilling prophecy, you are going to get a ton of reads, you’re going to get a ton of comments and a ton of votes, simply because people think that your story is awesome.
Some stories are awesome, some stories are not, I’ll talk a little bit about that more in the next succeeding chapters, but what you need to do is that you need to make sure that you get onto the first page of the hot list, there are very specific strategies for doing that.
I talked a little bit about the basics of it, there is a trick to doing that, as we go forward I will continue to update, make sure that you’re paying attention to my book on Wattpad, I am working on a top-secret website that I have to unveil to the public, if you’re interested in that, pay attention to my blog, thanks for reading.
